Yeah, it's very sad to lose someone like Dolly Parton. She's so much of the world.

I was shocked. I was stunned. I actually couldn't really function in the afternoon once I learned. This morning, I've been mourning, and I almost put on black today, which means I must have really been sad. Well, you're amazing.

I know that gave me goosebumps because she added so much to the world. I mean, I remember my first probably exposure to Dolly outside of her singing was the movie Nine to Five.

Oh my gosh. Yes, nine to five. I remember, and then I came home and I actually stole one of my grandmother's brasiers. Oh god. And I came out on the porch and I was like pretending to be Dolly. And I remember like I got the whole talk into, you know, like, hey, we don't make fun of the way people are made. And then my grandma said, because it made her laugh, she was like, I but I think Dolly would would let it slide this time.

And it was I wanted to be like her.

I also know though, just because I've studied Dolly, and actually, and I think it was 2017, 2018, I really started digging into Dolly's life. I started buying books, watching documentaries, and I know that she also had to harden a few parts of herself because just being in the entertainment world, if you come in and you're soft and naive and just unapologetically yourself, you will get eaten up. So there were parts of her that she had to boundaries really stand strong, which made her all the more of a role model for people like me.

Yeah. So I just had this visual of her being from East Tennessee and having these old sturdy pine fence posts as her boundary markers and being like, uh-uh, buddy, you're not getting past these.

Right. For example, you know that song, I Will Always Love You. Yes. Whoa, whoa, whoa, oh, which I've been.

Whitney Houston is what really made that song come to fame and put it in our awareness. However, I remember at the time I was doing uh pageants and talent shows, and I remember looking into that song and going, wait a minute, that song was originally written by Dolly Pardon. Interesting. You knew that?

And here's the thing I knew that this morning was Elvis Presley wanted to record that song.

I can hear him singing that song.

And because the negotiations weren't quite right at the time, Dolly said, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm standing strong. This is my song. Interesting. I want the back end of the money to go with this song.

It's not like holding on to it for what it meant to her.

Well, because she was protecting the everything around it.

And I I mean, think about that.

At the time, you everybody would want to be screaming for Elvis Presley to sing their song.

And she said, no, no, no. It's not about the fame, it's the principle. Yeah. It's the principle behind it.

That's big. Right. Especially, especially in that time. And she came from nothing. I know. I mean, a family of 12 kids, was it? She was number four.

She was like kind of the middle child, which I can relate to.

Right. Yeah. Nobody sees the middle child.

Not that I had 12 siblings, but the way you are in the middle, I mean, there's patterns there. The middle child usually is like, look at me, look at me. Because mom and dad are like, I'm tired of yeah, I got other responsibilities.

I was very careful with the first, let the last one do whatever they want.

You know, and when we look at our our journeys in life, the the thought process a lot of time is look how far I've gone from where I started, but not look how far I've gone and what I've put back in.

You know, that's been on my radar lately. I'm from a small town in Kansas, and I really have been thinking, you know, how can I give back to my community? Because I am so grateful for the person that they have helped shape me to become.

I love how I grew up. Absolutely love how I grew up.

It was like a fairy tale.

Yes. Amen. And that's one of the things is when we give back to the world, how do we make sure some of a lot of that is going back to the the life we were able we were afforded when we were children, when we were growing up in that environment. And that's what Dolly she was so good at.

She was so good at because she continuously it's like she didn't forget where she was from. And she didn't forget those roots and those stories of her humble beginnings. Is I mean, those stories came out in her songwriting, in her values, in her stage presence, in the way she interacted with people. It I mean, just love her.

Well, we're lucky to have had her in our lives. We're lucky to have lived when she lived.

Which is question number four, how lucky am I? And I know that when Dolly would give interviews or when she would speak publicly, she always talked about how God had blessed her, how she felt so fortunate, how she felt so alive, and she just was so grateful that she was able to live her dreams. And so I can't speak for Dolly right now in answering the question, how lucky am I? But I can speak for myself and saying I feel so loved for just experiencing Dolly's music, Dolly's movies, Dolly's stories, Dolly's style, Dolly's laughter.
