The Comfort Zone Trap: Why Your Next Breakthrough Is in a Room You’ve Never Entered

Are you waiting for life to change while clinging to the same routines, the same rooms, and the same energy? In this high-vibration episode of the Living Lucky® Podcast, Jason and Jana Banana share a wild, real-time lesson in personal development. We thought we were attending a standard keynote; instead, we landed in a Pink Moon ceremony in Sarasota—getting saged at the door and blindfolded for a dance of total expression.

If you feel stuck in a "doom loop" of predictability, this conversation is your nudge to get out of your backyard. We explore why positive thinking isn’t enough if you aren't willing to be awkward in public, and how a shift in your mindset can turn a confusing detour into a massive manifestation win.

In This Episode:

  • Break the "Same Room" Cycle: Why new results require new environments and different vibrational frequencies.
  • Master the "Pink Moon" Reset: How sound baths and "frequency" work can downshift your nervous system for better decision-making.
  • Identify Invisible Limits: Jason shares how a childhood "dance shame" created an adult boundary—and how to dissolve it.
  • Network Through Synchronicity: How walking into a different room led us straight to a yacht broker—a direct match for our morning manifesto.

Nuggets:

  • Discomfort is a Doorway: If it feels awkward, you’re expanding. Passively experiencing life is the opposite of actively creating it. (Believe in your circumstances)
  • Frequency over Force: You don't always need a harder work ethic; sometimes you need a higher vibration. (Believe in a higher power)
  • The "Manifesto" Magnet: When you read your dreams daily, your brain starts scanning different rooms for the people who can make them real. (Believe in yourself)
  • Opportunity’s Costume: Abundance is everywhere, but it often arrives in an unexpected package. Be open-minded enough to recognize it. (Believe in the people around you)

Stop playing it safe in your own backyard. Hit play to raise your frequency and start Living Lucky® today!

Create A Life You Crave

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana. I'm Jason. And we are Living Lucky®.

Want Change Without Changing

Jason Shelfer

You are too. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting different results.

Jana Shelfer

Thank you. And yet I feel like people in life, they want change in their life. They're like, Jana, Jason, help us change. We want to change.

Jason Shelfer

But I like doing it this way.

Jana Shelfer

But I want to do it the same.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah. I want to do it the way I want to do it.

Jana Shelfer

With the same people, the same places.

Jason Shelfer

In the same rooms.

Choosing Discomfort On Purpose

Jana Shelfer

With the same energy. In my comfort zone. Can I just tell you guys, in this last three days, Jason and I have gotten so far outside of our comfort zone that it almost to this point it feels like the uncomfortable is actually our comfort area.

Jason Shelfer

I think we kind of live out there. Like we live in that little um in where the grass is a little taller. You know, it's like it's like let's get out of the yard.

Jana Shelfer

It might not even be grass where we are these days.

Jason Shelfer

Get in the cuckoo birds and the weeds.

Jana Shelfer

Actually, I think we're more like where the the stars lie.

The Surprise Pink Moon Invite

Jason Shelfer

But it's and it's fun. Like it's it's like, okay, we go through our questions, like what do I want to experience? And then we say, okay, let's just kind of go explore where those experiences might be. It's a weird thing.

Jana Shelfer

Well, let me just say, on April 1st, it happened to be a Wednesday night for us here in Florida, I guess, anywhere, right?

Jason Shelfer

Most places. Outside of I know that there's some people in Australia, there's some people on the other side of the continent that are listening on a regular basis.

Jana Shelfer

Well, it's also known as Pink Moon, which we did not know. This is something new to us. And our friend happens to say, hey, I'm gonna be the keynote speaker in Sarasota, Florida on April 1st. Yeah, just two and a half hours away.

Jason Shelfer

He's from Jersey.

Jana Shelfer

And so we're like, oh my gosh, we will buy tickets, we will go there to support you.

Jason Shelfer

We'll be front row.

Jana Shelfer

So we bought VIP tickets. We show up with our glasses, our computers, our little notebooks. Like we showed up like we were headed to a Toastmasters meeting, ready to learn all the time.

Jason Shelfer

Tony Robbins conference. We were like, we're ready.

Jana Shelfer

And as we're looking for parking, I'm looking around at other people that are attending, and I'm like, they've got like pink buns in their hair.

Jason Shelfer

They've got long flowy dresses.

Jana Shelfer

Some people had lawn chairs, they had sequins and feathers. Yeah. And I'm thinking, either we did not get the memo.

Jason Shelfer

Right. We didn't ask enough questions. Yeah. That's for sure. But we were just like, we're all in. We'll be there.

Sage Smoke Sound Baths Frequencies

Jana Shelfer

We are all in. We are going to be there. Now, this was a pink moon dancing ceremony. That's what this was. And we get there, and before you could enter, they came over and they saged us. Like they literally smudged us.

Jason Shelfer

Cleanse that energy.

Jana Shelfer

And in my head, I'm thinking, am I the girl with the cooties? Like, why are they doing that? Then the next step was to go in and have a sound bath so that you could bathe all of the get on that vibrational frequency, baby. Yes, and bathe any toxic energy out of your system. We go in, we kind of take a little peruse around, and we're learning about tantric touch, and we are learning about magnets and all kinds of frequency, like things you can't vibration a lot of things you can't see. Which I'm totally into. Like I want to learn about. This is really right down our alley. It's just presented to us in a very different way. We usually take more of a scientific approach.

Jason Shelfer

And I we actually had a conversation in the car that I wanted, I'm very exploratory right now about frequency in the world. And I I think I was talking about the gigahertz and all these frequencies in the car on the way down there, not even knowing that that's what we were about to walk into. Yes. Which is really weird because I was like, I just got through watching this whole scientific uh explanation of how different frequencies pull things towards them.

Jana Shelfer

Yes. That and that's exactly what it is.

Jason Shelfer

That's what we walked into.

Jana Shelfer

So, I mean, people aren't wearing shoes. It's that kind of place. And they're drinking odd beverages, which I tried to convince Jana it was ayahuasca, but it was cut off. It was actually cacao. However, uh many times in the night I would looked around and I swore that other people were on some sort of substance that I was not aware of.

Jason Shelfer

It was very liberating and freeing.

Jana Shelfer

There were giant, I'm talking 15-foot dream catchers that were hanging from the palm trees. And this was on the ocean at a college.

Jason Shelfer

And it was the setting was beautiful. The setting was beautiful. New college in Sarasota.

Blindfold Dancing And Old Shame

Jana Shelfer

And then they call everyone over to the middle and they start, they s ask everyone to pair up. Of course, Jason and I are like attached at the hands. And one partner must blindfold and start doing this rain dance type thing.

Jason Shelfer

Well, just a a dance of freedom and expression.

Jana Shelfer

Yes. And and so we start partaking, although I have to say, were you kind of looking out of your blindfold because it's on a trip and a and and was there something in your head that thought this has to be uh an April Fool's joke? Am I the only one out here dancing?

Jason Shelfer

There were moments because we all have the or I guess I have this thing because it and it goes back to me at camp when I was a small kid and I was dancing. So I think I've talked about this probably a year or two ago on this podcast where I was the kid at camp that couldn't do the little two-step shuffle when they were teaching us to camp.

Jana Shelfer

You have told us that story before.

Jason Shelfer

And I'm holding the hips of this 18-year-old. So I'm like nine or ten, holding the hips of this beautiful 18-year-old girl looked like Sandy from Greece, and I'm going, oh my gosh, look at me. And I couldn't find the beat, and I was so embarrassed, and everybody was laughing at me, and I ran out. And I remember running back to my little cabin and getting into my bunk bed, and I was like, I'm never dancing again.

Jana Shelfer

Aww.

Jason Shelfer

So there was a part of me that still has this little wall.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah.

Jason Shelfer

And so I know that even with the blindfold on, there was still that internal like oh no, hide like shame of you can't be completely.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, there's like a an invisible limit to you.

Jason Shelfer

When we're cooking, when I'm in the kitchen by myself and the music's on, when we've got the troll soundplac track party, let me lose.

Jana Shelfer

Greatest showman.

Jason Shelfer

Greatest showman, yeah. Let me lose. I'm Hugh Jackman.

Manifesto Dreams Meet A Yacht Broker

Jana Shelfer

At any rate, as we're dancing, I hear, Jana, is that you? So I turn around and we see friends that we haven't seen for at least two years. Two years, yeah. And they were our friends from Mine Valley. Anyway, uh, I just want to say it was way outside our comfort zone. I'm not sure it's something that either one of us would have sought out on our own. However, getting in a different environment, learning something new, and just getting around different energy, I feel like we met people that we wouldn't normally meet.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, I've been wanting to meet a yacht broker.

Jana Shelfer

What's so crazy is that Jason and I made this manifesto on our. Now, this is just between us listening to this podcast, okay? Jason and I made this manifesto on our, we have it hanging on our refrigerator, and it pretty much is a mission statement of how we want to live our next five years.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, five to ten years.

Jana Shelfer

And we have on there, I mean, wildly outlandish dreams that we read every morning. And it does mention our yacht and our jet, those two things.

Jason Shelfer

Private chefs, private trainers, just things that are, and it's not about opulence. No. It's about creating a space for us to do more and to be better in the world.

Jana Shelfer

So as we're at this pink moon dancing under the pink moon festival.

Jason Shelfer

It was really like a manifestation ceremony festival.

Jana Shelfer

That's what it was. And they say, you know, now manifest all of your dreams. I'm thinking of this manifesto that we have on our refrigerator that we literally have been saying for the last week out loud every morning. And sure enough, this lady comes over and starts talking to me because her grandbaby was there dancing, and Jason just getting his groove on. Jason just thought this baby was so cute. And anyway, so she comes over to talk to me and she says that she's the one who put this whole thing on.

Jason Shelfer

First time ever. I mean, there's two. And so we start talking to her on the lawn, doing the the their dancing, letting their letting everything out.

Jana Shelfer

And she starts telling us all about the you know, the pink moon ceremony and what brought her to do this, and how she connected with the speaker, David, who we were there to support. And we start really just networking, learning about her, and uh she's just such a great woman, and she's introducing us to her family, and it was so delightful. And by the end of the conversation, Jason says, So what is your what is your day job? What do you do during the day?

Jason Shelfer

Like, I'm a yacht broker.

Jana Shelfer

She goes, I'm a yacht broker, and all of these friends here are from my yacht club, and we're like, Oh my gosh, how crazy is that that the universe takes us to the people we're looking to meet. It's almost like the right people come into our bath at the right time, at the right place, and it's when you drive two and a half hours out of your comfort zone and do something different. But we had to get outside of our everyday norm.

Jason Shelfer

Yes. And it was it was one of those things where we kind of when we got there, it was like the first thing we said was this isn't what we expected.

Speaker

Right.

Jason Shelfer

However, it fit into what do we want to experience? It fit into how do I want to grow?

Jana Shelfer

I love meeting eccentric, artsy people, which I felt there were a lot of eccentric artsy people there. Yes.

Jason Shelfer

And then it still allowed us to You love being on the water. Yes, it it fit all the criteria of the things, it was just outside of our comfort zone. It wasn't in the norm.

Jana Shelfer

It was presented in a different way.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

I have to give us credit though, because we were open-minded enough to say, you know what, we're just going to experience this and play full out.

Jason Shelfer

And this is one of the things where we what we don't recognize sometimes in life is opportunity is everywhere. The problem is, is we we stay in our own little field. We stay in our backyard. Yes. And then we say, I'm out of things here in my backyard. Yes. Now there's still plenty in the backyard. There is always plenty in the backyard. Abundance is everywhere. It's it's resourcefulness. However, if we allow ourselves to say, what is what might be out there? Yeah. You know, and what might be out there that I'm looking for, and how might it just look different than how I'm used to having it presented. And just allow yourself to get in different rooms and listen to how different people talk about it.

Jana Shelfer

And get get around different people.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, diff in different language. Like let the different language speak to you differently.

Jana Shelfer

Because that's what happened.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

Different, I mean, I had never even heard of the pink moon before. Right. And all of a sudden it's unlocking things and how these sounds are raising my frequency, my vibration, and it's breaking open my heart. I'm like, oh, that's so crazy.

Jason Shelfer
