Huddle Up: The 30-Second Reset to Stop Drifting & Start Winning 🏈✨

Feeling busy but out of sync? In this episode of the Living Lucky® Podcast, Jason and Jana Banana reveal their secret weapon for high-performance alignment: the "Huddle Up." Much like a championship timeout, this simple tool turns scattered effort into shared momentum.

Move beyond generic positive thinking and learn to use energy as data. Whether you're chasing a world title or better communication with your partner, mastering your mindset starts with a pause.

In this episode, you will learn to:

  • Master the 30-Second Timeout: Fix "goal drift" before it stalls your progress.
  • The "Marination" Phase: Distinguish between an "idea fart" and a soul-aligned mission.
  • Articulate with Precision: Avoid costly detours by defining success in plain, sensory terms (The German Bread Lesson).

Mindset Nuggets for Peak Alignment:

  • Energy is Your Compass: If a goal feels "heavy," pay attention. If it sparks late-night excitement, follow that fire. (Believe in your circumstances).
  • Read the Frequency: Real communication is tone and vibration. Stop just hearing words and start feeling energy. (Believe in the people around you).
  • The Success Snapshot: If you can’t describe "done" in three concrete steps, you aren’t ready to start. (Believe in yourself).
  • The Soul Connection: True alignment happens when an idea serves your mission and lights up your spirit. (Believe in a higher power).

Stop running the wrong play. Hit play to sharpen your focus and start Living Lucky® today!

  • Personal development, life coaching, mindset shift, self-help, goal setting, effective communication.
  • How to align goals with your partner, using energy to make decisions, overcoming limiting beliefs in business, the power of a daily huddle, defining success clearly.
  • "How do I stop drifting away from my goals?" Use a "Huddle Up" framework: Pause the activity, inventory your feelings, scan for energy spikes, and re-articulate success in simple language.
  • "What is the marination phase in goal setting?" It is a period where you brainstorm goals and let them "sit" to see w

Huddle Up: The Core Idea

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®.

Jason Shelfer

Good morning.

Jana Shelfer

I'm Jana Jason and we are Living Lucky®.

Jason Shelfer

We are too.

Jana Shelfer

We're talking about huddling up. Huddle up, huddle up. It sounds like we've been watching football.

Jason Shelfer

Sounds like we've been watching too much football.

Jana Shelfer

And I was like, oh my god, another commercial. Oh, they must have to huddle up.

Why Short Timeouts Matter

Jason Shelfer

They must need a 30-second timeout. Right? 30-second timeouts pay though.

Jana Shelfer

Right? What are you gonna get out of a 30-second timeout? However, what we've realized is if we huddle up in just our life, sometimes that 30 seconds makes all the difference.

Jason Shelfer

Right. You get to kind of recoup, reorganize. You get to also take a small break from the doing.

Jana Shelfer

And Jason and I literally call it huddle up. So we'll be doing something and we'll literally say, Well, time out, let's huddle up.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah. And a lot of times it's you recognizing that I'm stuck or me recognizing that I'm stuck.

Jana Shelfer

Or me recognizing that I'm stuck. It's not, it's usually not about you. I I mean, not it's not about yeah.

Jason Shelfer

Let's not talk about you. No, but but there's a lot of times that we're just we're in the act of doing, like quote unquote, going towards the end zone, but we're not running the same play at the right at the same time.

Jana Shelfer

I just realized that sometimes it feels like, okay, wait a minute. Either the body language or the energy levels or the even the words that we use are slightly different.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, they start um what drifting.

Goals On The Wall, Let Them Marinate

Jana Shelfer

Yes. Okay, so people are like, I don't know what you guys are talking about. What the hell? We set goals at the beginning of the year. We set goals, we put them on the wall. Now, we still are in the phase of let's let's hone in on these goals of exactly what that looks like so that we can both get on board and put our rocket fuel behind them and really make them sore. So as we put these on the wall, it feels as they've kind of been almost marinating. We've been in the marinating phase. And I know it's the you know, second week of January, and people might be thinking, gosh, don't you think you should have been doing this in November? Well, we were busy.

Jason Shelfer

We were traveling. We were in Australia winning a world championship.

Jana Shelfer

So, you know, it's been pushed back a little bit. However, we are going through this process and we do this every year. I don't know if we I mean, we've kind of trained ourselves to do this, and it works for us.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and the other thing is, is there's no wrong time to make goals.

Jana Shelfer

There's no wrong time.

Jason Shelfer

Period. So if you didn't make your goals before the new year started, make them right now.

Jana Shelfer

And what I like to do is I like to kind of brainstorm it with myself of what sounds good. I put them on the wall, then I let it marinate.

Jason Shelfer

And does that feel good?

Feeling Your Way To The Right Goals

Jana Shelfer

Does it what does that feel like for you? And and it's not just it's not just what comes, it's not just the thoughts that come to mind, it's the feelings around it. Like, does that feel heavy?

Jason Shelfer

Or do you have completely energized and motivated and on fire for it?

Jana Shelfer

And sometimes just talking about certain goals, one of us will completely light up.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

Like I noticed last night, I talked about, I just ran across this Instagram, which I'm rarely on Instagram, but I happen to be on Instagram. And this girl that I used to work with like 20 years ago, her Instagram account has completely blown up. She's got a million and a half followers, and she does date nights in Orlando. It's date night in Orlando. That's her Instagram account.

Jason Shelfer

And we've talked about several times in our huddles about having an experience somewhere around Florida, which is would be kind of like a date night, date day, you know, that gets us out and gets us um having these little micro adventures.

The Date-Night Spark And Energy Shift

Jana Shelfer

And all of a sudden, Jason literally, it's like we didn't even have to talk about it. He got so much energy. And when you pay attention to your energy, that is a signal that will take you to your destiny.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

Jason's energy level went through the roof. He was like, This sounds fun.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, I love I absolutely love doing things with you. I love new experiences. It's it's one of those ways to just really that sparks my patoot.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, that's exactly what it did because he not only started doing research, but then he printed out 50 pages. And I'm like, I'm going to bed, honey. I'm going to bed. I go in bed. I'm I'm laying down, and literally, I'm usually we kind of like turn the TV on to kind of put us to sleep. And I'm at the point where my eyes were falling asleep. The light is still bright on. All the lights in the room. And he's like, but I gotta read number 46. And he's like, What about going and doing this? And and I'm like, that sounds great, honey. That sounds great. But you are so excited about this. And when someone in your household has that kind of excitement, you can't ignore that.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah. And and you and you shouldn't poo-poo it.

Jana Shelfer

Oh no, no, no, no, no.

Jason Shelfer

It's uh it's one of those things where it's let it play out a little bit because sometimes they're idea farts. I will admit that sometimes I like me.

Jana Shelfer

I've had I've had like five idea farts since the beginning of the year.

Idea Farts Versus Real Alignment

Jason Shelfer

And we talked about this in the last podcast because sometimes like I will get super amped up and super sparked, but I grab onto the wrong string um or the wrong uh thread of that activity. Does that does that make sense? Yes. So this though, I grabbed hold of the whole sweater.

Jana Shelfer

You did because you started to connect us. And you started to connect the values to me.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, and our overall mission.

Jana Shelfer

And you started seeing an end vision of what this could look like.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, and that that that's that exciting. That's an amplifier, yes, because I saw how it it was it was like if you're you're doing a jigsaw puzzle right now. So it's like seeing how the piece creates the pathway to putting the whole thing together. And I I think this is a really good piece because it's I love spending time with you, I love adventure, I love uh sharing the things that we do with the world. Um, and I think it puts us for deeper into the world.

Jana Shelfer

Okay, so I guess our our podcast today is about huddling up, and that is really just clarifying what is it that I'm thinking, what is it that I'm feeling, what actions have I been taking, and how does that make me feel? Where is my energy level? What is the vibe that goes along with that? And do I want to experience that?

Connecting Vision To Values And Mission

Jason Shelfer

And how can I articulate it? Like that's one of the things that we've worked on just over and over and over again is the articulation of these things.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, because sometimes communication is such a small little nuance. And where we really learned to hone in on the skill was when we had foreign exchange tenants. Because, you know, their English was their second language. So when they would describe something, it I quickly realized they're not quite telling me what they mean.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah. So and a great example of that was our German exchange student who didn't like the bread that we used.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

And so I would, I was trying to make her feel more at home, all these things, and I was running around the state trying to find the right bread.

Jana Shelfer

You were going to buy Bulgarian bread.

Jason Shelfer

Well, it was, and I went to the German bakery and got the German. She's like, this is not the bread I'm used to. This I don't I can't eat this, and blah, blah, blah, all this. And so I went to the the German bakery.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, which was Bulgarian bread.

Jason Shelfer

Spent a ungodly amount of money on some loaves of which is so loving of you. And she's like, This is not good. She just wanted people brought the yeast from Germany.

Jana Shelfer

She wanted white wonder bread. That's what that was what was gonna make her happy.

Jason Shelfer

That was and she just wasn't able to articulate it.

Jana Shelfer

So that's I love that during No, we went to a race and they were giving out free sandwiches, and she was like, This is the bread! Finally, I found the bread.

Articulation, Nuance, And The Bread Story

Jason Shelfer

This is what I've been waiting for for the last two months. It's uh, and but so we've worked diligently about having these m little micro moments like 10, 15 minutes together, where and sometimes longer, but mostly the 10 or 15 minute conversations that help us articulate okay, how do I see this vision? What am I going through? What am I experiencing? And it also allows us to help each other.

Jana Shelfer

And in that communication, it's asking questions to the other person, but it's not just reading their words, it's reading their body language, it's reading their energy levels, it's reading their overall frequency level.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, I loved yesterday when we were going through when when I got all lit up, you said I I noticed, and it wasn't like this exactly, but you noticed my energy shift, my spark, my fire lit up. You're like, hey, let's talk about what's happening for you right now.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah.

Jason Shelfer

You know, and then at the end, I when I explained it all, you said, okay, exactly what does that look like as when it when you meet success? Like what does that overall puzzle look like once we put it together? Yes. Which allowed me to go further into exploration of why is this meaningful for me? Why is this meaningful for us? How does this plug into our equation?

Jana Shelfer

It's it's really learning to, I want to say connect the dots, but align that overall vision of success and finding how that not only connects to your own values, your why, your purpose, your reason, but then also connecting it to mine as well so that I can support you and be your biggest champion in this.

Jason Shelfer

So big.

Jana Shelfer

100% because when we work together, we really rise together.

Reading Energy, Asking Better Questions

Jason Shelfer

Yes. And it's it's it's so fun crossing the finish line with someone.

Jana Shelfer

Oh my gosh. It is so much more fun.

Jason Shelfer

It is so much more fun crossing the finish line with a with somebody that you love or somebody you respect or a partner. Oh, we did this together.

Jana Shelfer

Okay, so let's just recap real quickly. Huddle up, huddle up. It takes 30 seconds. Take a little time out, take a little commercial break, go to either your coworker, your husband, your kids, your dog, yourself, huddle up and say, Hey, what does this look like? What does this feel like? What is this? What are the actions I'm taking? Ask yourself those questions and really evaluate how is my energy right now? Is this exciting to me? Is this lighting up my soul? Communicate, communicate with the universe, communicate with yourself, get connected. And when you do that, when you really tune in to that right frequency, you will be unstoppable. Thanks for joining us.
