Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. All right, what's the quote for today?
Jason Shelfer:Jay. Today, I will remember how much I used to dream of where I am now.
Jana Shelfer:Today, I will remember how much I used to dream of where I am now.
Jason Shelfer:This really works for me. Tell me more. It just makes me pause and think about-.
Jana Shelfer:How far we've come.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, the me 20 years ago that dreamt of living on the water, having a wife like you, having this house, working for myself.
Jana Shelfer:You know, okay, this is such a great time to reflect on this because I feel like there's layers.
Jason Shelfer:There's lots of layers in this Right. Oh yeah, this is just blankets of layers.
Jana Shelfer:There's different areas of our life and sometimes it's easy to get caught on that surface layer. Like you know, I haven't booked my five speaking engagements for this quarter.
Jason Shelfer:Right, do you know what I'm saying?
Jana Shelfer:So it's easy to say oh, I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it. However, if you look a couple layers deeper, you can say well, look, how far I've come. The fact that I'm even in the position to be sending out packets to book speaking gigs.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, there's so often that we talk about count our wins, but I we still get upset about where we don't succeed. Right, we still, we still put these big x's on the board where we, where we don't do it yes, like that's just gonna be normal.
Jana Shelfer:I don't know why?
Jana Shelfer:but my, my natural tendency is to do that and sometimes that's why I feel I'm so grateful to be married to you, because I feel like you really intentionally say but look, how far you've come.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, look at what you're doing. It's normal to say I didn't hit it. It's normal to say I didn't make the shot.
Jana Shelfer:No, you know, I shot the shot, I didn't make it, and everybody went.
Jana Shelfer:oh, he missed this morning, after my meditation, I literally I made this calendar for my ski competition that's coming up and I started counting down the days until I compete in Australia. I compete in Australia, and it's so easy for me in my head to say, oh, you know what. I wanted to lose five pounds. I was going to start doing my upper body ergometer exercise at least 30 minutes a day, and I haven't done that and I haven't been lifting the heavy weights like I wanted to. However, I have been going out on the water every day, I've been skiing every day and I've been doing that for a year.
Jason Shelfer:And if you haven't done that, you've been doing maintenance on like you've been equipment fixing, like fixing equipment Equipment fixing.
Jana Shelfer:I've been helping other people. I mean, I've been studying video so it's easy for me to look at what I haven't done. Where my shortcomings? Are instead of being proud of what I have accomplished.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah. And the other part of that is when we can just take that moment and say, okay, well, how far have I come? Like 20 years ago it was literally like this pipe dream of having a really, really nice house on a lake in Central Florida.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, that was a dream. In fact, it was our second date. Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:Do you remember that? Yeah?
Jana Shelfer:Our second date. So let me just share with the podcast listeners Our second date. Jason and I we happened to be driving around we had just gone to a fast food restaurant because I don't know. We were coming back from some festival and we saw this house on a lake for sale.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, it was in a cove. It said lakefront property, lakefront home.
Jana Shelfer:For sale.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:And then it had the realtor's name. And if you open up the little tube underneath the sign, then you could call her, call the fire.
Jana Shelfer:So I'm like we should stop. And Jason started telling me about his dream. You know, someday I would really like to live on a lake. And I said really Because I would like to live on a lake. That sounds like so much fun. And I said really Because I would like to live on a lake. That sounds like so much fun. And we started living in this dream together. It's almost like we started playing house at that time.
Jana Shelfer:We stopped the car and I said call the realtor, because let's just pretend that we're a couple. This was our second date.
Jason Shelfer:Let's see what lake property in Central Florida costs.
Jana Shelfer:And the realtor was like I'm 40 minutes away, I'll be there as soon as I can. Go ahead and walk around the property. Take a look at what you can see. And then my bowels acted up and we had to go.
Jana Shelfer:I'm so sorry, that was on our second date Anyway. So yeah, we both were like ooh, that sounds great. And I mean and this isn't just about a lake house or material things I remember when I was little, saying I would love to have a dog one day. I would love to have a dog and to love a dog. I would love to fall in love, I would love to meet the man of my dreams. And you look back and I'm like oh my gosh those things happen.
Jason Shelfer:And so at the time when we were looking at a lake house, even I was thinking, okay, well, I had get up and I go to work at 6.30 every morning, I get home at seven every night or later, and what would it be like to just be able to work for myself, set my own hours, set my own schedule, and I've been doing that since 2021 now.
Jana Shelfer:Now, in those dreams, there are actions that need to be taken. Sometimes it is a leap of faith yeah. Sometimes it is a giant leap of faith yeah, sometimes it is a giant leap of faith. Sometimes it is a micro choice of To go out and get on the upper body ergometer exercise machine for five minutes. Maybe not 30, but five, yeah, it's just a little tiny step.
Jason Shelfer:I think that is one of the biggest things. So there are those big leaps that you are going to have, those jump across the creeks.
Jana Shelfer:Where, hey, I'm going to quit my job or I'm going to start a podcast.
Jason Shelfer:Jump across the creeks when, hey, I'm going to quit my job or I'm going to start a podcast. But, more importantly, are those little tiny, the micro, like just the daily consistent grains of sand that you're plowing through, just like the sands of an hourglass? Just like the sands of an hourglass.
Jana Shelfer:So are the days of our lives. Oh my gosh. We're probably going to get copyright infringement for that get. We're 80s kids.
Jason Shelfer:We grew up with soap operas I don't even know if they're still on they probably aren't, but it's a but, it's, that's, I think, consistency like it's. It's like just small actions every single day, like something that is leaning into your dreams, okay.
Jana Shelfer:So why are those little grains of sand, as you call them? Why are those so scary.
Jason Shelfer:I think it's because we don't take the time to look to see how far we've come and we don't count our wins. We don't say you know what, I am making progress.
Jana Shelfer:Why does it sound scary to me to just walk over to the gym, which is literally less than a block away from me? Walk over there and start lifting some weights. Why is that so scary to me?
Jason Shelfer:Maybe it's because you don't count the walk as part of like, because just walking halfway to the gym is a workout, you know what I'm saying.
Jana Shelfer:I hate to say the gym is a workout. You know what I'm saying. I hate to say it, but a block.
Jason Shelfer:yeah, if you start saying yeah when it's 100 degrees outside, when you start saying you know what, walking halfway there, if I do that over and over again and then if I walk there.
Jana Shelfer:And lift, do one exercise yeah, just one end. And then if I walk there and lift, do one exercise yeah, just one.
Jana Shelfer:But for some reason in my mind I think I need to go and work out literally start working out like rocky balboa because that's what we've been seeing on on movies.
Jana Shelfer:That's what we've seen, like that's I'm like I gotta go all in.
Jason Shelfer:That's what it has to be, that's the jumping across the creek but my all-in right now is just getting there. That's my all in and it's those small, consistent actions. It's just like walking around the block the gratitude walks that we do. I mean that is a very beneficial, helpful exercise. That is an exercise mental, physical and emotional, emotional connection. Yes.
Jana Shelfer:I know, see, I know, see, I know these things. Then the whole thing is I know what to do, so why am I not doing it?
Jason Shelfer:You are. That's why you're going to Australia in November to compete as a world champion, not a national champion. You already are a national champion, a world champion, world champion, not a national champion.
Jana Shelfer:You already are a national champion, a world champion. But I also think you know, for anyone listening to this, there are things in our lives. I mean I would like to lose 10 pounds and yet I mean I do my best to eat well, and then I tend to have that day where I'm like, oh, I've eaten well for six days. It's time to treat myself.
Jason Shelfer:Go get me a turkey.
Jana Shelfer:Unfortunately, turkey is not usually my choice of food. It's more like ice cream. Okay, yeah, go get me some pancakes. I guess, coach Jason, what you are telling us today is I think.
Jason Shelfer:Just take time to recognize how far we've come.
Jana Shelfer:Just celebrate yourself.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, celebrate yourself and where you're at Celebrate where you're at.
Jana Shelfer:Where you're at is not who you are, but celebrate it, because your thoughts and your feelings and your actions have gotten you to where you are right now.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and you can decide where you want to go from there and then just make small, consistent actions to get you wherever you want to go.
Jana Shelfer:And the control is in you. It's in your choices, it's in your thoughts, your feelings and your actions. Those are the three components.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and if you're having trouble changing one of those thoughts, feelings or actions, that's where you reach out to a coach.
Jana Shelfer:All right, let's just recap what is the quote for the day.
Jason Shelfer:Today, I will remember how much I used to dream of where I am now.
Jana Shelfer:And we live happily ever after. Thanks for joining us. Keep Living Lucky®.
