Jason Shelfer:Good morning.
Jana Shelfer:I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. I want to talk about intention.
Jason Shelfer:I love some intention.
Jana Shelfer:It is really the secret behind the secret.
Jason Shelfer:It is when you put your attention on your intention, things change.
Jana Shelfer:Oh my gosh, did you just make that up? That's brilliant. I'm brilliant, you should quote that Attention on your intention.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, it's big and it's one of those things where sometimes we forget, like we get in that habitual way of living and we just keep showing up and doing the same thing, hoping to get a new result, but we don't change anything because we haven't clearly defined our intention.
Jana Shelfer:So I'm having lunch today with a former colleague that I haven't really seen or talked to in probably at least seven years.
Jason Shelfer:Wow, seven year itch Got to go back and see Right.
Jana Shelfer:And I've had nerves. I've had gosh. I've actually visualized what the conversation is going to be. I've also been thinking gosh, so much has happened in the last seven years. Where do I even start? If he asked about me?
Jason Shelfer:Right.
Jana Shelfer:I don't even know where to start. And then something came over me and I was like you know what? My intention is just to connect with an old friend and my intention is just to laugh, to laugh and be self-deprecating about our former years together and how life has treated us now. And that's.
Jason Shelfer:I think that's a very healthy intention, because otherwise sometimes we get caught up in ego and also like the what if? On the on the flip side of the coin.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, and I I hate to say this, but it there can be a oh my gosh, look at what I've done and I've done this and I've done that when that, when we all know we've had our equal share of.
Jason Shelfer:Ups and downs, successes and failures, just like the stock market it goes up, it goes down, it bounces out. Yes.
Jana Shelfer:You know what I'm saying.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:And I feel like if I just go with the intention to laugh, then my energy will reflect that and I think that it will be well-received.
Jason Shelfer:I do too, especially given the history. I mean, it was a 12-year run with that co-worker and you guys love to laugh together. You like to talk? About deep things, but you also love to laugh with each other.
Jana Shelfer:I often say, if I could make this person laugh, then I felt this little, silly, little twinkle inside my soul Does that make sense?
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, because I think that laughter is one of the best forms of connection, like not a laughing at but laughing with. Right, that is a very, very connecting. That's like connective tissue.
Jana Shelfer:Okay.
Jason Shelfer:It's an energy. So when energy is contagious and you're able to share that energy and you're saying, hey, life is like you mentioned, there's ups and downs and everything, we all have our equal share. Yes, well, if we can't laugh at ourselves while we're in the joke, I mean it's a.
Jana Shelfer:While we're in the joke. That's so funny.
Jason Shelfer:Because a lot of times, like recognizing hey, these things happen, these things happen and all of it's happening for us and it's what the definition we're putting on it is negative or positive. Why don't we find a way to be curious and laugh through any of it? Because five years from now it'll all be funny anyway. Seven years from now, a lot of the things that we previously defined as negative are going to be funny and a lot of the things that we defined as positive are going to be funny.
Jana Shelfer:You know, wayne Dyer wrote a whole book about your intention, and your intention is really what matters, because it is there's a direct connection of what your intention is to how you show up, and it shows up in your body language, it shows up in the way your muscles, your energy, just your whole demeanor your physiology, your micro expressions?
Jason Shelfer:Yes, and that's one thing that you don't get really to choose is your micro expressions, but subconsciouslyly, the people around you are going to pick up on it.
Jana Shelfer:And if I go in and choose to just connect and laugh, then my reticular activating system is going to look for reasons of why things are funny and how I can connect.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, that's. That's really big. It reminds me of a. I hope I don't derail the conversation.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, go ahead.
Jason Shelfer:It reminds me of a conversation last night, because some friends that I was meeting with are moving to Seattle.
Jana Shelfer:Okay.
Jason Shelfer:And they're super nervous and I said you're going to find whatever you're looking for, so set your intention on what you want to find.
Jana Shelfer:That's so good.
Jason Shelfer:And it's a because we can say I'm nervous, I'm scared, I'm like the what if all these negative things happen? Or what if I don't find the right crowd, the right friends, all these things? But if you set your intention on, I'm like I am still me.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:And I'm going to find the good in everything. I'm going to look for the things that I want, not the things that I don't want. You're going to find those things because you set your intention on looking for those and they will stand out more.
Jana Shelfer:You know. It's funny that you bring that up because I mentioned Wayne Dyer earlier. In this book about intention he uses the example of when people say, oh, I've been to the Midwest, people are great there.
Jason Shelfer:You know what I'm saying.
Jana Shelfer:And oh, I'm moving to Washington DC. And then they ask how are the people there? And Wayne Dyer would answer well, how are the people where you live now? Because it has more to do with who you are and what you're looking for are the people where you live now, because it has more to do with you and your intention, who you are and what you're looking for in the people around you?
Jason Shelfer:Yes, and so you will get to this new place. And if you are the kind of person that believes everyone is good, Then you're going to attract those people, then you will find those people and you will see the good in everybody.
Jason Shelfer:But if you are the person that says you know what this person's out to get me, people in the they're rude. In the Northwest are cold and distant, or people in New York are loud and obnoxious. If you have those labels Stereotypes, those beliefs, then you will look for that to be true. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, yes, so intention is huge.
Jana Shelfer:You know, I couldn't sleep two nights ago so I got up in the middle of the night and I was watching this documentary it's called the Shark Whisperer which is really quite fascinating.
Jason Shelfer:One of the things that I love. I'm just going to pause right there because I love that when you wake up in the middle of the night-.
Jana Shelfer:I do like homework stuff you either read you meditate or you watch a documentary. I know I do things. You're not watching crap that are really, really quite productive. To be honest with you, In fact, I think sometimes it's my most productive hours.
Jason Shelfer:That's one of my, one of my favorite things. Yeah, Just just so we all know, like I don't tell, you that, but I wanted to put that out there.
Jana Shelfer:Well, I was watching this shark documentary about this girl named Ocean Ramsey and she swims with the sharks, which is really, really trailblazing in so many ways, and one thing that she said is when she goes underwater she is very clear about her intention, and her intention will reflect in her muscles, her, her bones, her body language and how she reacts. So when a shark comes toward her, which most people get, into fight or flight.
Jason Shelfer:So the shark comes at you. Its mouth is two and a half feet wide, full of teeth.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:Looks like death and destruction. Looks like a grinder.
Jana Shelfer:She focuses and gets extremely clear on her intention, which is to form a connection with these sharks, to learn their language, and that's one of her secrets of how she swims with these great whites, these tiger sharks, these animals that most people consider predators.
Jason Shelfer:Well, they are. They are an apex predator. I mean these sharks that she's swimming with, and it's one of those things again where energy is contagious. There is this we know that if we are giving off this frenetic energy, if we're giving off this desperation energy, that people or things are going to respond with that, in a certain way and she's giving off her claim I can't get into her body, but her claim is that her intention is.
Jason Shelfer:She's set her intention so deeply and clearly that it's to connect, it's to understand and it's to basically build that communication table between the two.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:And it's very peaceful, like even just because I got to watch 20, 30 minutes of it this morning and I felt at ease, where typically I would feel when I'm watching something like that. I was like, oh crap, it was almost meditating watching, it, wasn't it? Yeah, when I'm watching something, like that.
Jana Shelfer:I was like, oh crap, here it comes. It was almost meditating watching, it, wasn't it? It was, yeah, I mean, I seriously. It was in the middle of the night and I started watching it and I was mesmerized. And then my eyes started getting sleepy again and I was like no, no, no, I got to watch this.
Jason Shelfer:You're getting sleepy.
Jana Shelfer:I know it was so fascinating Ocean Ramsey, it's the shark whisperer. So again, I just want to recap we're focusing on intention.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:Intention and throughout your day. I know that in one of our past podcasts, jason talked about chunking down your day, but I think if you can chunk down your day and reset your intention, Very big.
Jana Shelfer:Maybe even in the micro moments, very big maybe even in the micro moments. You know, sometimes we get in our car and we just let the traffic dictate us. But if we get in our car and get in the habit of starting our car and saying you know what, I'm going to take a minute to just set my intention. My intention is to get where I'm going safely and to share the road and to know that other people are going through their things today. So I'm going to have compassion for them and it just changes the energy right.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, so so much. And I love that you brought it back to a previous podcast about the day segmentation, because when we set our intention, we can always come back any moment, any moment, and reset and get clearer on our intention.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:So when we realize that we're out of intention and our attention is going somewhere else, we can always reset, come back to it and say, okay, what is my intention? How can I get closer to that?
Jana Shelfer:Okay, say your quote one last time Attention towards your intention, yeah.
Jason Shelfer:Put your attention on your intention and your attention will follow your intention, because if you're crystal clear about your intention, your muscles and your body and your mind will continue in that direction.
Jana Shelfer:I feel like there's a tongue twister there. We just have to figure that out. Thank you for joining us.
