Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. We're road tripping today Road tripping, you must be tripping.
Jana Shelfer:We're road tripping to Tennessee I love it.
Jason Shelfer:I love getting behind the wheel. I do oftentimes get anxiety a couple days before and I don't know if it's anxiety, but it's like a lot of my mind is in constant state of thinking a couple days before a trip.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, because we think about what we don't want to forget.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, think about what we don't want to forget.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, think about what we don't want to forget.
Jason Shelfer:Or things that we need to remember, Things that we need to remember. We think about logistics. We think about okay, how's it going to pack into this? It's like putting a Tetris box together in the car.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, anyone under 45 has no idea what you're talking about.
Jason Shelfer:Because they just get in the car and go and then they complain or play their Xbox or whatever.
Jana Shelfer:No, because they don't know what Tetris is.
Jason Shelfer:That's why Okay, I was thinking just because someone's taking care of it for them.
Jana Shelfer:All right, here's the deal. I have to be so grateful to my husband. I am saying this publicly in front of you.
Jason Shelfer:I love it.
Jana Shelfer:Because Jason is kind of a hard ass when it comes to vacationing. He's like we're leaving at 6 am.
Jason Shelfer:Drill sergeant.
Jana Shelfer:Feet on floor Make sure you're ready at 6 am, jana. That's what time the car is leaving the parking lot.
Jason Shelfer:That's right. Train leaves the station.
Jana Shelfer:I looked at him like why are we bringing such a?
Jason Shelfer:harsh energy.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, and he said because we have a 12-hour trip, that's why.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and I know where the traffic chokeholds are and I'm like, okay, if we can get to this point before this time, we can avoid these delays.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, so all of a sudden Was it last night.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, it was last night at 6.20-ish.
Jana Shelfer:And I was like I need to go to bed. I'm so tired I'm going to have to pack in the morning. I'll just get up at you know the crazy hours to pack. And all of a sudden Jason looked at me and he said you know what, honey, we don't need to leave at 6.
Jason Shelfer:Don't worry about when we leave. We're going to have fun. It's just. This isn't a timed trip. There's not a set time. We have to be there. There's no deadline.
Jana Shelfer:What I'm getting at is this was very new for you. Yeah, you reframed the energy, you totally reframed the energy for yourself, and what that did for me was it was priceless, because all of a sudden, I didn't have this frenetic, frantic panic, hurry, hurry. What if I forget something? Because that's what happens when you hurry I'm making bad decisions, I don't feel organized.
Jason Shelfer:Well, energy is very contagious and we talk about this all the time and, like my thought process and my wondering okay, what's it going to be like? A lot of the times we wonder what it's going to be like and that creates this anxiety barrier between when we're leaving or when we start doing something. So there's like this anticipation and want to hurry up and start so that we can experience what it's going to be like and go ahead and deal with anything that comes our way. So that's kind of where I land and then it's a. It's one of those things where it's like, if I can go ahead and start and I get a headstart, it's one of those things where it's like, if I can go ahead and start and I get a head start, then I can, I've got time, I've got that runway to deal with those things that are going to come up.
Jana Shelfer:And I don't delay anything that's going to happen in the future. What I really want to talk about, though, is by you changing your energy about it, so you, literally, I mean it. It was visual, I could feel it, tater could feel it.
Jason Shelfer:Oh, yeah, like normally, when we're getting ready to go, tater can feel this and also normally when we're getting ready for bed, tater's like oh yeah, let's do that, let's get in bed. And last night she was like before I I changed the energy. She was like I'm not going to leave the door because I'm not missing this trip, I'm getting in that car.
Jana Shelfer:That's what she does. He's got this energy about leaving.
Jason Shelfer:It's going to happen. I'm not missing the trip. I'm not getting in the bed.
Jana Shelfer:As soon as Jason opens that trunk to start loading things, which sometimes we're loading for a while she will sneak in that car and she will just sit there, and it doesn't matter if it's hot outside or what. She's going to sit there because she doesn't want to miss the trip.
Jason Shelfer:And if you're new to the podcast, tater is our 17-year-old mini Labrador.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, and also what I wanted to say is that, by you changing your energy, all of a sudden Tater wasn't barking like she normally does. Like normally, when we start packing, she's like like I want to go, I want to go.
Jason Shelfer:I want to go. Where's my stuff? Where's my stuff? But?
Jana Shelfer:by you, kind of saying you know what We'll leave when we leave tomorrow. We'll do our best to get up early and to pack, but if we're not on the road by six o'clock I'm not going to have a conniption fit.
Jason Shelfer:Well, I recognized the pattern, that because we do travel a lot, and I also took I just took a moment to recognize the pattern that I create and the ripple effect that it sends out, and I said, okay, what if it was different? What would it look like if it was different? And then I said, okay, what, how am I adding to this energy?
Jason Shelfer:And my anxiety me getting anxious and saying okay, I want to make sure we start on time so that we can do these things. The way I expressed that anxiety was putting these strict parameters on things. Okay.
Jana Shelfer:And also in the way you carried yourself.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, all the things and the way you would, because there's tension.
Jana Shelfer:You would kind of not stomp around the house, but your footsteps would get a little heavier. So, and what I your breathing would be a little.
Jason Shelfer:I fooled myself into saying it was intentional, so I fooled myself into thinking it's intent, when really it was a mask for anxiety and mask for all the little things that I was working through in my head.
Jana Shelfer:Jason, that's so wise and I just I feel like sometimes, when, when we want to change a situation or a pattern, many times we look at how the other person can change. We try to change everything outside. And here's the thing by changing your own energy, you automatically change everything around you.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, I will say for sure today. So it's early in the morning right now, super early, and we're recording this a day before it's Tuesday morning for us and this will drop on Wednesday, but this has been the most peaceful morning prior to a road trip that I remember experiencing and I'm always very excited. So it's an excited anxiety, excited nervousness, excited anticipation, but there's a peaceful excitement which is a very, very nice energy to be in, which is a very, very nice energy to be in, and it's also a very loving energy to be in because I feel like we're pulling, like it's very team oriented.
Jana Shelfer:You this morning became a creator.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:Because we always talk about creating our reality. You this morning, and just your intentional change and shift of mindset, you changed the whole circumstance. Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:And I see where I do that in all these other areas. And then it was very, it was very significantly pointed out to me in my own vision and mind last night, before we, like when we were getting ready, because there were all these things that I wanted to do, like all these things that I wanted, like I wanted to pack the car before we went to bed.
Jason Shelfer:I wanted to do all these things. And I said you know what. So what? What if you know? What? If we just enjoyed our time in the moment, right now? And what if we don't leave at 6 am? What if we don't have the like it's all okay, like let's just enjoy each other and just be.
Jana Shelfer:Oh my gosh, I just feel like there's been a transcendence here.
Jason Shelfer:I feel good, I feel so good.
Jana Shelfer:I feel like I'm Living Lucky®, I feel good and it's only 6.54.
Jana Shelfer:So we're not that extremely late.
Jason Shelfer:Jason has this and you know I build in some time anyway, yeah.
Jana Shelfer:See, I knew it. I knew it. You know how you and I are Like when I was younger, my parents would say you need to get up at this time. So I would literally move the clock forward so that I would have extra time when I woke up.
Jason Shelfer:Do you know what?
Jana Shelfer:I'm saying so. I'd always set the clock like 10 minutes faster so that I would always have oh good, I get to snooze. Do you know what I'm saying? And you and I have naturally done that. It's like you automatically build in time to this trip because I'm like 12 hours. I don't know, jason, I've been to tennessee many times many times it goes pretty quickly stop and let the dog out.
Jason Shelfer:We gotta stop and get hot dogs. You're building, building in time.
Jana Shelfer:Ah, so we got to meet in the middle, anyway. So changing your own energy changes your circumstance, so true, yes, okay, we have a road trip to get on, so shall we go.
Jason Shelfer:Let's hit it. Hit the road, Jack.
Jana Shelfer:Thanks for joining us.
Jason Shelfer:Keep Living Lucky®, bye-bye.
Jana Shelfer:If the idea of Living Lucky® appeals to.
