Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky® you are too.
Jana Shelfer:We had a friend and her family come ski with us yesterday.
Jason Shelfer:Not the whole family, but a big portion of it.
Jana Shelfer:A portion of her family. It was.
Jason Shelfer:It was a total of five of them. Yes.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, it was fun. I must say, when they left I started to examine myself a little bit.
Jana Shelfer:Don't we love it when we do that?
Jana Shelfer:Yes, I came away so inspired. You know, when you think that you're doing the right things, like I, seriously I'm like for my age and and for where I'm at in my life, I I take pretty good care of myself.
Jason Shelfer:I'm getting it done, I'm taking care of myself, I'm eating well, I'm pretty healthy.
Jana Shelfer:That sounds so conceited, doesn't it? But, I kind of have those thoughts sometimes.
Jason Shelfer:Well, I think we have been kind of living into that.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, there was a time in life where we weren't. However, yesterday we had my friend Raquel and her sister Laurel come over and just watching those two Laurel is like the fittest person that I've seen up close in a long time yeah, well, she's a fitness instructor or fitness coach and she has, like Laurel's, fitness boot camp right. Was that just a joke? No, that's real. That's what she does, real.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, okay, I mean look at her. I mean no, I know she's like a little ball of muscle.
Jana Shelfer:I know at one point jason was just joking on the boat because laurel didn't know where to sit and what she was supposed to be doing and jason said you just go sit and look fit you just go sit up front and look fit.
Jason Shelfer:That's all you need to do right now. I got all this. This is what I do. And then even her dad, Chris, Like at the end. So we've done a whole day of skiing, moving people around, getting equipment, all this stuff. And he's like I'm going to go for a little swim. And I was like, okay, and he wants to do it in a lake. And I had no idea what his definition of a little swim was, but he, there was this thing about wanting to be in the lake.
Jason Shelfer:And he, he went for a swim.
Jana Shelfer:He's doing like what they do. He's doing like an Iron man, like triathlons, yeah.
Jason Shelfer:He's like I'll see you guys in a couple hours.
Jana Shelfer:I'm like where is Chris going? He was in the Coast Guard.
Jason Shelfer:Like we're going to have to send a rescue boat out after him.
Jana Shelfer:No, and my friend Raquel has two kids. One is 18 months. And just a little spitfire, he gets around who loves to swim and just has a ton of energy, and so watching her not only ski with us, but then take care of her baby and take care of his needs, not only feed him and make sure that you know he's where he needs to be.
Jason Shelfer:Those one-arm lifts.
Jana Shelfer:Right. I was like, oh my gosh, I need to step up my life. I literally came away yesterday thinking, wow, here, I thought that I was pretty fit. But then I saw Laurel and I was like gosh. Between ski sets she's over there doing dips and pushups and Handstands Right. Like she's literally.
Jason Shelfer:Wall pushups.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, let's do a few pull-ups over here at lunchtime.
Jason Shelfer:Let's get 20 pull-ups in. Let's do some negatives.
Jana Shelfer:Right and I'm thinking, oh my gosh, I need to start doing that, like when I just have a few minutes.
Jason Shelfer:So there was a beautiful energy in having that new energy and that family's energy in the house. I mean even Kai. So Kai is the older child.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:And her dancing and excitement for trying new things, and just all that energy lends us to that question of how might we be more inspired and how might we piggyback on that energy that's been brought into the house and hold on to it.
Jana Shelfer:Here's the thing is. I thought you and I were pretty we were, we're doing it. I thought we were doing it, but then I see what they're doing and their normal is a different level than our normal, and that is why I feel like we need to constantly surround ourselves with different people Different levels of normal. And different circles.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, different and higher levels of normal Right yeah.
Jana Shelfer:Because when we just surround ourselves with couples who are our age, that makes us sound old. But seriously, for when we surround ourselves with couples who are our age, I'm like, yeah, we got dance lessons today and then we're going to go out skiing and and they, yeah, and they're always like oh my gosh how do you do all that you do how? Do you do it all and we're always like the ones. Well, hey, this is what we love to do.
Jason Shelfer:And so even I think and Raquel would say, how do we do the things that we do? Like she probably looks at our travel schedule, our activity schedule and those types of things and says how do you manage all that? But what it lends itself to is saying, hey, where can we be more inspired in different areas and say, where do we get some of that fun energy and just kind of just sprinkle that in as an extra little spice for what we've got going on.
Jana Shelfer:I mean, I'm telling you. So, raquel, first of all, I see a lot of myself in Raquel, but she's maybe 15, 20 years difference. Maybe not 20. 15. Let's not stretch it too much. Let's call it 10 to 15.
Jason Shelfer:10 to 15.
Jana Shelfer:She's younger than I am, and so I do see, like maybe a vitality that I have maybe let go dormant inside myself, and so, being around her, I'm like gosh, I'm gonna I'm gonna get it back I remember her.
Jana Shelfer:I remember that, I remember that janna and I'm gonna get that back. I can feel that, yes. And then her, her younger sister, laurel, that was here and watching her and how fit she was. And then her curiosity of trying new things. Like she was trying wakeboarding with jason's wakeboard, she was trying slalom skiing with jason's slalom yeah, so these are the boot fittings for my slalom, which I'm a size 12 and she's like a size flintstone.
Jason Shelfer:She's like a size eight and a half, maybe on her foot yes, um.
Jana Shelfer:So she was making it work. She was, she was adapting like tim gunn. Make it work because she was like I want to do this, I have the opportunity I'm going to do this I am gonna make the best of this and she was out there running the course not only the course, but she did it like 10 times, not four, not five. She was like, let's do it again, let's do it again.
Jason Shelfer:And she didn't let not being able to get up on our first couple of tries deter her from doing it. Yeah, which is a lot of people will try something once and think, oh, I can't do this, oh, this is hard, this isn't for me, and if you've ever tried getting up behind a slalom, that first try is not an easy thing.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:But it's like, hey, I've seen that it's possible, so I can do this. Yes, and recognizing if it's possible for anyone in the world, it's possible for everyone.
Jana Shelfer:No, she. When I saw her, what I, what I really saw, was this little voice inside her that saw the challenge and the adventure and the possibility as the fun part. Yeah, kind of the joy Like this is going to be a fun mountain to climb, yeah, and, and even the workout mountain to climb. Yeah, and even the workout.
Jason Shelfer:like that's what's fun, the harder the workout the more fun it is, like there's a connection there.
Jana Shelfer:Well, I think that's that second level joy or second level fun which we've talked about that before.
Jason Shelfer:So it's like you can have the fun in the moment or you can have that fun that comes from achieving the longer term goal.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, and then with her sister Raquel, who has the two kids. I was thinking to myself like as I literally when we said goodbye to them at 6.30.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, jason went to the grocery store immediately to get us dinner Steaks and I was getting ready for bed. I was brushing my teeth, washing my face, putting on my pajamas. I literally was in bed when you got home and I was sitting there going, oh my gosh, I don't know Like if I had kids, I don't know if I would bathe them, do?
Jason Shelfer:you know what I'm saying? Somebody take these things right. And then I I mean I know you would because, because that would be your normal well, yeah, and I think so a lot of times we get in these situations and we and we look at someone else and say I don't know that I could, but but we always we're, we are resilient and we, we always find a way.
Jason Shelfer:You rise to the level and the one area in life where sometimes we let that uh, um, find a way slip away is in our dreams, like in the things that we really want for our lives, and that's where regret comes in, because we like when, when it's something that is like hey, this is something that's in front of me right now, I've got to get done a dream. Oftentimes we can put it on the calendar and then we can say someday or one day, and then we just keep pushing it back.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, so let's button this up in a nice tidy package. What exactly are you trying to say? Because I feel like you made a huge leap there. I did take a huge leap there. I'm not quite sure what you're getting at.
Jason Shelfer:I think the main point of this podcast is is recognize the energy that other people can bring into your life and then also recognize. Ask yourself, how might I be more inspired in other areas of my life and add some extra fun and joy spice to my life?
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, because we can learn from everyone that crosses our path.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:I learned from the 18 month old baby Vaughn that came. I also learned from Kai that was here. I realized that there literally is a 12-year-old girl inside me that loves to do hand jives and secret handshakes. I love to do that kind of thing, and so just having her here that was fun.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, everybody. Like you said, we can learn from everybody. And it's like just pick those wonderful fun things that excite you and bring you that joy and say, where might I sprinkle some of this into my day?
Jana Shelfer:I need to raise my standards for myself. That's what I came away with.
Jason Shelfer:Awesome, let's do it. Let's do it together.
Jana Shelfer:Thanks for joining us.
