Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®.
Jason Shelfer:Good morning.
Jana Shelfer:I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. We've been talking about the it factor.
Jason Shelfer:Ooh, I like the it factor.
Jana Shelfer:You know those people that you just go into a room and you say they've got that something.
Jason Shelfer:They've got it. They've got that.
Jana Shelfer:What is it?
Jason Shelfer:though. What is it? It's that energy, it's that confidence, it's that energy that brings you to them.
Jana Shelfer:It's that energy that brings you to them. Okay, so, if you haven't heard, I am lucky enough to be in the 2025 class of Hall of Famers that will be inducted into the Olympic Paralympic Hall of Fame in July. That's a big deal. I am super excited. I am so nervous about what to wear. I have no idea, and Jason and I were talking about it, and the class consists of Serena Williams, who has the it factor.
Jason Shelfer:She does have the it factor Right.
Jana Shelfer:She goes into any room, any stadium and you automatically go. Who is?
Jason Shelfer:that there's a commercial. I think it's a Nissan commercial. I don't know the commercial because Serena Williams is such a pivotal point of the commercial. But she does a mic drop and that mic drop is kind of the it factor. It's like I'm Serena Williams, just drop the mic.
Jana Shelfer:You don't even need to say anything. Yeah, it's one of those things. It's like I'm Serena Williams, just drop the mic, just, you don't even need to say anything.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, it's one of those things. It's that exclamation point on who you are.
Jana Shelfer:That's who I am. That's who this is who I am.
Jason Shelfer:It's pretty incredible. I got goosebumps because I feel like that is what some of us feel, like we may or may not be missing, Like how do I get? The question behind the curtain that some of us have in our subconscious minds is how do I get the it factor?
Jana Shelfer:I think you either have it or you don't. I think it can be developed.
Jason Shelfer:also you do yes.
Jana Shelfer:Is it, by the way you feel?
Jason Shelfer:It is you think. So I believe it's by the way you feel and what some of those beliefs are, some of the conversation that you're having in your head behind the curtain, and when you step into your own power and your own like an empowering truth, you get to actually take those steps forward into life, like and show up with that kind of energy that it energy.
Jana Shelfer:I mean there's going to be other people there. Almost everyone at this, at this induction ceremony, has the it factor. There's going to be carrie walsh. She's got the it factor right there's going to be gabby douglas.
Jason Shelfer:she's got the it factor A little bouncy flippy it factor.
Jana Shelfer:I think it's more than bouncy Jana. Shelfer it factor. I'm worried about what I'm going to wear. I'm like, oh gosh.
Jason Shelfer:And I don't think you need to. I think your accomplishments speak for themselves.
Jana Shelfer:That you can just show up and you could.
Jason Shelfer:You could be Post Malone show up with tattoos all over your face and be like Olympic Hall of Fame People. You're not like that.
Jana Shelfer:And that's, and it's the I don't know if that would make my dad proud. That's always been my barometer. Is this going to make my dad proud?
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and that's not you Like, that is a Post Malone thing, but and Post Malone has the it factor Like there's-.
Jana Shelfer:So okay, let's dissect this. What is, I think, is when you are just so much being your authentic self and you are just in the present moment, loving who you are and what you're doing, there's also a passion.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, that comes out and it's a, and that's that confidence of of the moment, of like I this, I'm here, I'm here to do this, I'm loving what I'm doing and this is me.
Jana Shelfer:There's a dip there, okay, so there's a slightly different because here I come there's a slightly different it factor. So, like simone biles, she's got this it factor, that is.
Jason Shelfer:That is fierce right, yes, fierce even though she's nodding my head like even though she's smiley and optimistic.
Jana Shelfer:She still has this fierce. You know like you look at her and you're like Whoa yeah, kind of like the. Serena Williams. She kind of has that, that, that almost intimidation. Like I am, serena Williams, right, like I am unstoppable, that is Serena Williams williams. Right, like I am unstoppable, that is serena williams.
Jason Shelfer:And yet then you look at, let's say, olivia newton john, who has the it factor, yet it's a little different or celine dion oh yes, celine dion has the effect, but it's in like uh, I mean, I mean she sings these notes and she sings about love, and it just hits this frequency that we all feel so they know that they are good at what they do, so they know that they are, they excel in their element and they carry that into all areas of their life. So when? Because all these people that you mentioned, if you just watch them walking through the supermarket or walk, watch them walking through a, a store that they're shopping in, you'd be, you would see them and go, they've got something. Even if you didn't know who they were, you'd be like that person has, has something, they have the it factor and you're like what is it Like?
Jason Shelfer:If you didn't know Olivia Newton John was a superstar? If you didn't know Serena Williams was a tennis player, that confidence that they walk around with that energy that they, that energetic aura that they put out, you know, as a bystander, they've got it. And that is, I think, something that we can create through our feelings, because we, I think we can create our energy, we can transmute our own energy.
Jana Shelfer:I think it's how they feel.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:I really believe that that is the secret. You know, long ago, when I was in my 20s, I took these classes from Lisa Maley was her name.
Jason Shelfer:Oh, Lisa Maley.
Jana Shelfer:They were about interviewing and they were like finishing school classes. Do you know what I'm?
Jason Shelfer:saying that's why you're so polished.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, they were about pageantry and you know, learning how to be on stage and present yourself, those kinds of things. I loved that kind of stuff and so I enrolled in her school and I was just taking classes to work on myself. And one thing she said we had a special speaker come in and she was talking about confidence and feeling sexy, and what this woman said I will never forget. She said when you're alone in a room with a man, it doesn't matter what you look like, it doesn't matter what, what you say, what you do, how you act. It's how you feel. It is how you feel, and if you feel sexy, they automatically can feel that.
Jason Shelfer:And that's not just for women, right, and that's not just for the sex appeal, that is for anything. If you feel confident, confident, people can feel that. If you feel nervous, scared, people feel that. If you feel greedy, people feel that, yes. If you feel desperate, who's heard that? Desperation is disgusting, like that is, and people feel the ick factor from desperation.
Jana Shelfer:I also, though, sometimes think that desperation can be a motivator.
Jason Shelfer:It can be, however, when you you can feel desperation, but you have to transmute that when you show up places, that's true.
Jana Shelfer:That is true. Yeah, if you show up in the icky desperation, people go ew get away.
Jason Shelfer:And that's where, like if you have a coach, your coach helps you. It's a repellent. Yes, your coach will help you recognize where your desperation is showing up and say, okay, how do we show up differently so that you can get those different results? Because that energy is going to rub off on people and repel.
Jason Shelfer:So for you, who has the it factor that you've always admired, I've run across people often Like one of the things is like the characters Jon Hamm plays on television. Yeah, you like that, he's got swagger Mad Men. Yeah, he's got swagger, he shows up and he gets things done. Tom Cruise plays a lot of characters that Risky business, right, got swagger mad men. Yeah, he's got swagger, he shows up and he gets things done. Uh, tom cruise plays a lot of characters that risky business, right, like. And he has these times where he's like, he's unsure or like and like how's this?
Jason Shelfer:show me the money right he gets down, but then he's like I know I can get this, I'm gonna get it, and he gets this confidence back and I get like those are people that I can see things through with this. I mean, and there's Michael Jordan, I think had something that I was like and it was his discipline and confidence and like the way he just kept showing up on the court.
Jana Shelfer:No, he had something in him that you just knew.
Jason Shelfer:he knew he was the best player on the court and even if he wasn't, he could be like if there was a type he knew inside him was the best player and that he was going to find that person, find that player and get there by the end of the game.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, and, and we all believed that because he believed it yes, so there was something. Are contagious yes, and there was something that came out in the stadium when you would watch him play, or even on television when you would watch him play, it was like, yeah, get him the ball. We all, we all were like get him the ball.
Jason Shelfer:Even if you just watch an interview with him. There's that confidence, there's that energy, that feeling, and that feeling went through the airwaves. That's the it factor. When that feeling goes through the airwaves, you don't have to be in the same room with somebody. It's like I get it. I feel that I want to be in the same room with somebody. It's like I get it. I feel that I want to be a part of that. That makes me want to go to a game and be closer to it yeah, I I feel like some people have, I mean betty white.
Jana Shelfer:I always felt like betty white had the it factor lucille ball in that she could always turn the conversation around to make people smile and laugh and she could take situations that we're like, oh, do you know what I'm saying? But she would always kind of bring it into a lighthearted area and she had this confidence about her that we all just Confidence. It comes down to confidence. It comes back to confidence.
Jason Shelfer:And confidence is a feeling.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, you're right. You know what this podcast, this conversation has really helped me, because if there is one downfall that I have struggled with my entire life, it is that voice of doubt.
Jason Shelfer:And we all have that. Those, all these people that we've mentioned have had that voice of doubt and it's saying I'm not going to believe that voice over what I know, because that voice is going to come in and, just like you say, all the time I've got this inner critic that wants me to be better. But I can either believe that I'm I'm getting better or I can believe that I'm not enough and that's that's. I think that there's a there's a little weird area in there that sometimes we can just get sick and tired of the voice, where we can start believing it and like we are.
Jana Shelfer:It's taking that. It is taking that doubt and, like you said, transmuting that into how can I be better, how can I train to get better, how can I be disciplined to become my best self?
Jason Shelfer:How am I a little better today than I was yesterday?
Jana Shelfer:And it's just turning that dialogue or monologue inside ourselves.
Jason Shelfer:So big.
Jana Shelfer:Which is empowering instead of disempowering.
Jason Shelfer:And recognizing our growth right, just recognizing that we are winning, just by getting to the next day, just by getting to the next mile marker on our journey in life, next mile marker on our journey in life and it feels like the people who really have that energy that aura they have learned to master that inner belief.
Jana Shelfer:I love it Right. Yeah, they're Living Lucky®. Oh, thanks for joining us.
