Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®.
Jason Shelfer:Good morning.
Jana Shelfer:I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. We're talking about the best of it's the best in the world. No it's the best of.
Jason Shelfer:Winter Garden.
Jana Shelfer:It sure is, and we've been voted the best local podcast. This is in the local magazine and we are ecstatic. Jason's like a kid in a candy store.
Jason Shelfer:Well, it's just nice, because we've been doing this for three years now. It's fun to be recognized. It is fun to be recognized. It is fun to be recognized and most of our downloads are from Winter Garden. But I'm happy that someone thought of us to put us down for the best of you know what my dad always says.
Jana Shelfer:what you do behind the scenes will eventually be recognized publicly.
Jason Shelfer:That's big.
Jana Shelfer:Right, yeah, I mean I'm paraphrasing Dad, but he always says what you do when nobody's watching will eventually come out, and we've been diligently podcasting every week. We're consistent.
Jason Shelfer:Little bite-sized nuggets.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, I can't say we're always the best, but we definitely are consistent. That's one thing we do.
Jason Shelfer:That's fine.
Jana Shelfer:And I want to bring up the point of looking for the best in others, because when we went to vote, which I encourage everybody to go to the local, we're going to put the link in the comments of how you can vote for your favorite podcast, which I hope is Living Lucky®.
Jason Shelfer:Right.
Jana Shelfer:When I went to vote, I started seeing the best of Winter Garden and it opened my eyes, and every now and then I feel like we all need to just maybe clean off that filter that we're looking through maybe the lens and we need to start looking for the best in our own lives.
Jason Shelfer:That's so. That's a a very big noticing awareness issue, because I think of the times when we want to go out to dinner and we, we, we all we go, we love the places we go to, but we think about, we wish there were more options, and then we look at the best of I hate to say this.
Jana Shelfer:I'm the one that always is like I wish we had more options. And then we look at the best of I hate to say this. I'm the one that always is like I wish we had more options. I wish we had more cool dining places that we could sit outside, take the dog, have a little cocktail and maybe some appetizers and sit and enjoy each other. And you look at the best of Winter Garden garden, best of Orlando, and all of a sudden I'm like huh, we've never been there. Right, we've never been there. Why haven't we have? Why haven't we tried out this place?
Jason Shelfer:and I think sometimes we go through life and we get used to the places we go to and we stop noticing all the other beauty in the world it's the law of habituation yes we just get in a rut.
Jana Shelfer:We get in a rut of doing things the same way, same old, same old.
Jason Shelfer:Going to the same places.
Jana Shelfer:Yes. Doing the same thing, and every now and then you just need to like clean off that. It's like it's like wearing a pair of glasses and every now and then you just need to.
Jason Shelfer:You got to get the smudges off every day. That's a good little metaphor or analogy.
Jana Shelfer:No, I kind of. I was thinking about this this morning and I was like you know, when we got foreign exchange students and we brought them to live with us for a year, it was like seeing where we lived through fresh eyes. So big. Right, so big Right.
Jason Shelfer:So big, and the thing is, you don't have to have a foreign exchange student to do that.
Jana Shelfer:All of a sudden, this little shopping area that we go to, which is called the Grove, and literally it's a shopping area which is like Target, best Buy, staples, party, city. I mean, it literally is just the basics, but Carol would get so excited.
Jason Shelfer:She was like oh, we're going to the Grove, we're going to the Grove. And I was like Let me get all dolled up.
Jana Shelfer:Right. She would meet her friends at the Grove.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:And they would just walk around.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, we're going to walk around the Grove and have the best time. Yes, and when other exchange students would come, can we take them to the Grove?
Jana Shelfer:And then I think you know, we have Disney right outside our window and yesterday a friend of mine we were texting a friend that I haven't seen in probably 20 years Since our wedding. And she said you know what, janna, I'm gonna be in orlando next week. And I said you are? And she said yeah, I'm doing a disney vacation. And I thought, oh my gosh, disney is literally like we see the fireworks every single night, and yet we don't, we don't go there we don't.
Jason Shelfer:And I know there know there's a lot of fun, a lot of excitement. I mean, it's the place where magic happens, right?
Jana Shelfer:Yeah. It's the most magical place in the world People pay big bucks to go to Disney.
Jason Shelfer:And I feel like we've done it. But if we go back and go through new eyes, look for the best of it's a new experience. That's just like with people and friends.
Jana Shelfer:Here's the thing I think. Sometimes it's a conscious choice to look at it through new eyes.
Jason Shelfer:Well, we get to decide what we're looking for.
Jana Shelfer:And just make a decision. I'm going to look for the best. I'm going to look for new things. I'm going to consciously look for what's wonderful about this experience, what's wonderful about this place, what's wonderful about these people.
Jason Shelfer:I just got goosebumps because it reminds me of going to the fundraiser in Miami, where we drove down just for the day.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:And we were coming back that night and it was a four-hour fundraiser, so that's a long day. And we were coming back that night and it was a four hour fundraiser, so that's a long day. And when we started, you put the intention out I'm going to find out something interesting about every person that I can meet.
Jana Shelfer:I did, and it changed the whole experience and we met famous ballplayers, famous singers, and instead of having you know, sometimes you go to those fundraisers and you're like oh, I'm here, I got gotta work the room.
Jason Shelfer:I gotta make myself seen. You know what I'm saying. Like you start putting the half twos on instead of. This is my intention.
Jana Shelfer:This is my want to yes, like I, I want to make sure that people know that I showed up right, but how often?
Jason Shelfer:how often do we do that? And it becomes like it becomes a job or a chore. It does instead of fun and excitement it it does. So that's one of the differences in setting an intention and looking for the best of yes. So big.
Jana Shelfer:And so.
Jason Shelfer:And we don't talk about these things, except for when we have our little meetings like this. I know.
Jana Shelfer:And so yesterday, when we got the news that we made the best of Winter Garden list, you should have seen the excitement that, especially for Jason, like it tickled you pink.
Jason Shelfer:It did Well, cause I get. I know what goes on behind the scenes, like I know that we show up all the like. We show up constantly and um, sometimes I think people just think we willy-nilly everything, or it's every now and then, but there's a lot of intention to every one of our days.
Jana Shelfer:And we have gone through a learning curve of technology.
Jason Shelfer:Oh my God. Thousands and thousands of dollars worth of learning curve.
Jana Shelfer:And education and trying to put it all together, and we sometimes don't get it all together at the same time in alignment, we get a little bit over here, a little over there, but it's coming together, we get all the pieces on the table and then and then we have extra pieces because we didn't need them all, but also looking for the best of in that learning curve and the experience it's been fun. It's a different change too. It's been fun. There's been growth. We've definitely come together as a team.
Jason Shelfer:And we could focus on where we went wrong, or we could focus on what was the best of all of it and just keep putting that together and where we went right. Yes.
Jana Shelfer:It comes down to perception.
Jason Shelfer:Thanks for having this conversation with me live. Yeah, Really yeah, because I recognize some of the other places. Really yeah, Because I recognize some of the other places, like even with the skiing and the dock and the and the boat and things like that that we've done a lot of times. I will focus on the cost of it instead of the reward of it.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, no, I, I'm. It all comes down to where. What are you focusing on? And yesterday, when we got that best of list and I was like, oh, I'm going to vote for us, which I don't know if that's narcissistic or not, but I'm like, oh, I'm going to vote for us.
Jason Shelfer:If you don't think you're the best, then hey, figure out how to get to be the best and then be it.
Jana Shelfer:Well, I'm definitely going to vote for us.
Jason Shelfer:I'm voting for us.
Jana Shelfer:So I went to vote for us and then, as I was voting for us, I started looking at all of the other nominees and all of the other categories and it opened my eyes to what is happening and what is available right here in our own community and I thought, oh my gosh, I've been so laser focused on what I'm interested in that I'm not even aware of everything that's around us.
Jason Shelfer:Well, we talked in the way back from dance yesterday about how many people come to Orlando for their life vacation. This is one of their bucket list vacations.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, they have two weeks of vacation a year, and where do they come?
Jason Shelfer:Orlando.
Jana Shelfer:They come right here in our backyard.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, so a lot of times we look for places to go way far away to get us out of where we are, right when other people are traveling to where we are so that they can have the fun that we're looking for. And it gives us the opportunity to say you know what, how might I find the fun here in my own backyard, in those smaller moments that I don't have to take two weeks for?
Jana Shelfer:And appreciate it even more.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, so big, so big.
Jana Shelfer:Right, maybe live in even more gratitude.
Jason Shelfer:I mean I remember when we went to Africa for safari for three weeks and even more gratitude. I mean I remember when we went to Africa for safari for three weeks and when we came back, that feeling stayed and I started noticing the things from the safari just right here in our literally in our yard, like being able to look out Like little lizards.
Jason Shelfer:Lizards, the birds, the rabbits, the water of the lake with the eagles, I was like, and I had that sense of awe and beauty and wonder and that's best of You're like, we live in the bush.
Jana Shelfer:That's right, we live in the best area, my gosh we have the same sunrise and sunset that they do all the way over there, right.
Jason Shelfer:It's beautiful.
Jana Shelfer:Wow, these are the same stars.
Jason Shelfer:So all this doesn't cost a lot. There's huge reward just when you have that appreciation for it's awareness. Yes, it's raising your consciousness and becoming aware and getting out of that law of habituation.
Jana Shelfer:It took a list. It took someone writing a list. In this case, it's the local magazine writing a list for us.
Jason Shelfer:Which is kind of like a gratitude list. It is Right, it's a cousin of the gratitude list. This is the best of list. What are you grateful for in your area?
Jana Shelfer:Yes, and it's also recognizing, so it's also celebrating.
Jason Shelfer:It's got a lot built in.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, it's also celebrating people and places and things and celebrating the community.
Jason Shelfer:So big.
Jana Shelfer:So I mean, we talk about that all the time. Celebrate yourself, Celebrate yourself.
Jason Shelfer:Rising tide lifts all ships. Appreciate, show that appreciation. Notice the awareness.
Jana Shelfer:And celebrate yourself.
Jason Shelfer:Celebrate yourself so big.
