Are You Ready to Create a Life You Crave?

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Janna, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too.

Jana Shelfer

We've been talking about how you create a life where you are Living Lucky®. How do you do that? And here's the recipe. Last podcast, we talked about deciding yeah making that choice. And today we're talking about the identity shift. That's a big one Now. That sounds kind of like a broad term, the identity shift. What in the heck are you guys talking about? Some people?

Jason Shelfer

think it's a broad term. Some people think it's woo-woo, Like I just want to be me. Well, my me wants to grow, wants to be a different version of myself five years from now.

Jana Shelfer

Here's the thing we're constantly creating. Who that me is by the words we say, the phrases. We say we come home and we say I am so-.

Jason Shelfer

I'm so tired, I'm so exhausted, I am so Pissed off.

Jana Shelfer

And so guess what you are.

Jason Shelfer

Those things.

Jana Shelfer

And when you say those things and you feel those things, guess what kind of experiences you attract? It's almost like the universe saying you must love this.

Jason Shelfer

You must love that you are choosing these identities.

Jana Shelfer

Michael Beckwith said it so perfectly we don't attract what we want. We attract who we are.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

So bad who we are. So if you want laughter and love and kindness, support, and I mean all those creativity, success, all those upper level frequencies, then that's who you have to become.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and I think one of the starting points is not. So we're going to identify some of the things that we might be experiencing. I'm experiencing tiredness or sleepiness, I'm experiencing sadness, I'm experiencing disappointment. I am not disappointed.

Jana Shelfer

Okay, so that's a very, very subtle shift, because many times people get stuck in the doom loop, and the reason is is because they are being real, they're being authentic with what is happening in the moment.

Jason Shelfer

They're just choosing. I am statements over. This is an experience.

Jana Shelfer

This is what is happening, or this is what I yeah this isn't who I am.

Jason Shelfer

This is what is happening. Or this is what I? Yeah, this isn't who I am. This is what's happening.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, yes.

Jason Shelfer

But we come home and we use words, and words create the story that we tell about who we believe we are. Yes, they tell the story of who we are that got us to here, and they're also informing the words that we use for the story that we're writing about our future self.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, so for you, how do you think you made that identity shift? What was the catalyst and what was the aha moment?

Jason Shelfer

for you. I remember the aha moment. So, first of all, when we first met, we were just crushing life. Like we were extraordinary people and I remember a time where I had kind of checked all the boxes in my life, all the things that I wanted House on the water, the love of my life, all these things that told me I was a success. And then I just rested, like I just sat back.

Jana Shelfer

You became complacent.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, I love that word.

Jana Shelfer

I don't love that word.

Jason Shelfer

Well, I love the acknowledgement of the word, because that's what happened is I got very complacent. I wanted to go out in the backyard and just kind of do a toast of beer, toast a bourbon to the lake, like I've arrived, I'm here, I'm the king in the castle. And I did that for a couple of weeks where I would just kind of go out and I was so complacent I didn't have any more dreams, I didn't have this dream.

Jana Shelfer

You're sounding a little pretentious. I'm just going to be. I'm just going to call you out.

Jason Shelfer

I had worked so hard for all these things and I had them, and it was things that these don't make me who I am. So when we went through this downtime of my complacency and I will call it my depression you said who are we? Why did we get in this relationship? And we were two extraordinary people. We got in this relationship for an extraordinary experience of life. And then you said are we doing that day to day?

Jana Shelfer

Right and it opened my eyes.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, Because an extraordinary person is wants to have that extraordinary life and they want. There's always that there's always room to grow more and draw for growth and it doesn't even have to be more sometimes it can be sometimes it can be more simplicity sometimes it can be look at that do. You know what I'm?

Jana Shelfer

saying like it doesn't always have to be more, but it's growth.

Jason Shelfer

It's some type of growth maturity and I had stopped growing, Some type of growth Maturity and I had stopped growing. And when you stop growing, then you realize at some point there's this awareness that hits you, that says I'm not growing, I'm not evolving, but the world is.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, and if you are not changing and the world is changing you are getting behind.

Jason Shelfer

You're not just staying the same, you're actually getting behind, and you're falling behind a learning curve, because the world learns as it grows, just like we learn as we grow. This last decade a little over a decade that we've spent in personal development A, I realized I don't know near as much as I thought I knew, and I still don't, but I've been immersed.

Jana Shelfer

And at the same time.

Jason Shelfer

I know so much more.

Jana Shelfer

Right, because I know, just for like, here's a silly little example. You know, I'm doing this one woman show and they were like yeah, well, you're going to need to make a cover for the ticket and you're going to need to do this, and you're probably going to want to get a software called canva, and then you're going to need to do some publicity, which means you're probably going to have to do a reel, which thought you're going to have to learn all sorts of things.

Jana Shelfer

I'm like okay, we, we know we've been learning as we've been doing as we grow, yes, as you grow and and I thought, okay, so the part they thought would take me months to do literally took me two hours, and the part that I'm already supposed to have done is taking me months.

Jason Shelfer

Part of this whole, taking on the identity. So we've identified ourselves as extraordinary people that are in the personal development world and in really the living of life world.

Jana Shelfer

We just want to be the best.

Jason Shelfer

We want to show up as the best versions of ourselves and have the best experience of life, like that's to me, like that's the most important thing, like squeezing the juice out of it.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, right, like I'm here it needs to like let's the most important thing, it's squeezing the juice out of it. Yes, Right.

Jason Shelfer

I'm here. Let's make it worth it. Our love has grown, the things that we do. I'm getting goosebumps because we go out there and we tackle it and we enjoy it. It's just part of the journey.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

It's not these crazy mountains that we're climbing, or anything like that. Yet, yeah, there there are.

Jana Shelfer

there are challenges, there are difficulties but it's not a dance lifts right Danger, danger, danger, danger.

Jason Shelfer

Don't drive her again, oh my gosh, yeah, so I.

Jana Shelfer

I guess what you're saying then is yeah.

Jason Shelfer

So for me it was A identifying what is the identity that I want, that I am Then embodying that. So we did vision boards, we did Right. It kept it front of mind. It kept my reticular activating system on these are the things you're looking for, these are the things that are in your future best self. Be on the lookout, because if it's available for anyone, it's available for everyone. You just have to be able to see the opportunities.

Jana Shelfer

No, we stepped into this role on all fronts. I mean, I don't think people realize how much we've put into this. Not only were we doing the vision boards and the affirmations and the meditations, but we were also coming at it from so many different ways. We joined Toastmasters so we could work on our speaking National.

Jason Shelfer

Speakers Association.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, we went to conference after conference after conference to continue to do the work on ourselves and to continue to learn tools. We started groups to help others so we would teach as we would learn.

Jason Shelfer

Embody it teach it.

Jana Shelfer

Teach it, because then you learn it better. If you teach it, you learn it better.

Jason Shelfer

If you teach it, you learn it better, and when you see things differently or from a different level of understanding, you pick up different things from it. Like you'll recognize this throughout life when you hear a quote like Wayne Dyer's quote when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. Yeah it's so true. That made sense to me when I first heard it, but it didn't hit me so deep as it does each day now forward, right?

Jana Shelfer

Yes, so I guess. What I'm trying to say, though, is we literally embodied the energy of the identity of. We were becoming. Yeah.

Jason Shelfer

And we cultivated our environment. We changed our house, our habits, we changed our friends, our house Like, the people that we like, we have friends that are always going to be our friends. But we also created, got into groups where there were going to be new friends, where there's going to be different levels of thinking, like the financial experts, the real estate experts, the speaking, the speaking, the spiritual experts. We put ourselves in these different environments where we get to actually bring in people to challenge the way we're thinking, and it cultivated new relationships.

Jana Shelfer

And when you're first stepping into that new energy. Here's where it gets difficult, and I'm just going to be completely transparent and real. You are not your future self yet. You may be embodying your future selves, thoughts and feelings, but there is a latency period of getting there, so you need to treat any type of circumstance or situation that comes your way with the love, understanding, compassion that you want to attract.

Jason Shelfer

That's so big.

Jana Shelfer

Do you know what I'm saying?

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

And I feel like that's where people get stuck is because they deal with their current circumstances, with their current understanding or current consciousness. Yeah, and until you raise your consciousness and deal with it with the love, understanding and support, then that is what you will attract in two to three months, but you have to give it first, that's so big. Right, you have to be the one to give first.

Jason Shelfer

And one question that you can ask yourself is how would my future self, how would my ideal perfect self, respond in this situation? Or how would I show up in this arena? Right, yes. And then the other part of that is I like to think of it as a journey. Like I'm just in a car trip going to meet my future self and I'm super excited, I'm super energized and pumped. And my future self because they have everything, like they have all this stuff that I'm desiring, like that perfect world, so I'm so excited to meet that person. Think about when you're in a car trip going somewhere that you are just so pumped to go. How do you show up and act in that? You're prepared, your confidence is up, your energy's up and your future self is super excited to meet you because they know you're doing the work to get there.

Jana Shelfer

Okay. So let's try to simplify this If you want to change your life, you change your energy, and what Jason is saying is identify the shift or shift it into the identity. And in order to do that, like here's a really simple example that maybe might help us all understand when I first started speaking on stages, I would get off the stage and I would literally run to the bathroom and I would say that was terrible. Oh my God, that was horrible.

Jason Shelfer

Your inner critic came out.

Jana Shelfer

That was awful and I would just criticize myself of everything that I had just done. And one day Jason said do you think Tony Robbins gets off stage and and completely criticizes everything that he's just done? No, he doesn't do that. He goes into it with confidence. And until you go into it with confidence and get off that stage with confidence, you're going to continue to have the same experiences.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and I'm out there in the crowd dealing with, like all the standing ovations, the people telling me what an inspiration and what a great job you did, and you're back there in your old self saying I'm not exactly where I want to be yet, like, I'm on my way. I know I'm on my way, right.

Jana Shelfer

But I'm not where I want to be and in the meantime I kept creating these where the audience kind of would look at me like they wonder about that latency period because they don't see it, but they feel it. Yeah, they're like I don't know, she doesn't. Yeah, I think she knows what she's talking about, right. Because, I hadn't stepped into my confidence yet.

Jason Shelfer

And then, when you stepped in your confidence, bam, boom bam boom and that's the as if.

Jason Shelfer

Right, yeah, that's true, that's showing up in those little as if moments, as if I'm already there. This is the experience I'm having and then also create like a little evidence journal. Like to me, that's like my evidence journal was kind of your vision board, watching you kind of manifest all these things by embodying the energy, embodying the thoughts, embodying the intentional movement towards which just allowed all these things to meet you in a quicker capacity, and I was like, oh my God, this works. It's so much easier to see it working because we spend a ton of time together.

Jana Shelfer

Right.

Jason Shelfer

So I got to watch all that work and I was like oh, that's the formula.

Jana Shelfer

Isn't it crazy? I see it working more in your life than I do my own life. But that's the way it works is sometimes you can see it in other people's lives before you can really see it in your own.

Jason Shelfer

So so true.

Jana Shelfer

Okay, I hope this helped a little bit. Just to recap shift your identity, and when I say that, that means shift your energy, shift your thoughts, shift your feelings into your future self or your best self.

Jason Shelfer

And you're going to bring the opportunities and the circumstances to you that make you feel like the person that has those it's all about the way you feel.

Jana Shelfer

That is the secret. Write that down. Listen to this again it's all about the way you feel.

Jason Shelfer
