Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®.
Jason Shelfer:You are too.
Jana Shelfer:We had someone email us today.
Jason Shelfer:A prospective new client.
Jana Shelfer:Seeking inspiration. Now, jason and I have both faced this at different profound levels in our life and at different times In fact mine. I, literally in the last two weeks, have said I feel like I need some inspiration, I need which, for me, leads to motivation.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, when.
Jana Shelfer:I'm inspired, I don't even have to think about motivation. However, when I feel uninspired, it sometimes is hard for me to just even get through the day. Right, I'm like I don't feel, like I have a purpose.
Jason Shelfer:And one of the parts of that is I think we need to recognize what some of our motivational triggers are Like when we get up. I remember getting up and playing the soundtrack from Trolls.
Jana Shelfer:Trolls and also Greatest Showman, and even Frozen.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:Those three. I had those three soundtracks in a playlist and there was a time period where I was playing those every morning.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, that's, maybe I need to start doing that again and I realized through this christmas time that music is one of my motivational triggers. Like it will help inspire that mood and emotion that makes me want specific things.
Jana Shelfer:You know what, Jason? That is one reason why I am so adamant about us taking dance lessons, Because I know that when dance day comes up on Thursdays, you and I both are like we have so much to do.
Jason Shelfer:And it's an hour there.
Jana Shelfer:It's an hour back To drive an hour to dance lessons and then to do it and uh, you know, we kind of go through this. However, every time we go, I feel so much better.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and I I know I know this also like it's a, it's the drive I don't want to do. Yeah, it's the same, go ahead. It's like. It's like I don't want to go to the gym, but I love how I feel when I leave the gym.
Jana Shelfer:And it's the same for me. It's the same with being social. I'm going to be real with you when it comes to any event where I'm going to have to be social. Listen to me. Just even my top track, I'm going to have to be. I'm catching myself as I speak. I literally go through this. Oh, I don't want to go. I'd rather just get on the couch and watch a good movie tonight. However, when I force myself to get dressed and show up, force myself to get dressed and show up.
Jason Shelfer:I somehow transform into something different Watching you hold court. I love watching you be interested in someone else. I love the way that translates into them being interested in you, and I love that conversational dance between you and the people around you, because you always end up with this either semicircle or full circle of people around you.
Jana Shelfer:So okay. So what we have just recognized is we all have triggers, and it's almost like doing what's best for ourselves.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:You know in. So in the moment it feels like, oh gosh, I really just want to get on the couch and take a nap or watch a movie. However, in the bigger picture, if I get up and go be social, or if I get up and go dance, or if I listen to music, you talk about a lot about how do you want to feel?
Jason Shelfer:Yes, and it's figuring out what are the triggers that are going to start moving you towards that direction and what is the real thing you want to feel. Do you want to feel successful, do you want to feel accomplished? And when we start identifying the triggers that are going to move us into kind of that dance with life, then we get to feel the music and all the instruments in the song and then start moving with it towards that final or that bigger destination.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, so the person that emailed us today and said I am just desperately seeking some sort of inspiration.
Jason Shelfer:Because they feel like and this is this, and they were in the same spot I was in back in 2015.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:Which is, we had just built this multimillion dollar home on the water and I felt like I could put my feet up and say I've done it. I've done all the things that I wanted to do. I have accomplished my dreams. But you didn't feel fulfilled, got the woman that I never imagined I would have this wife.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, let's talk about her some more.
Jason Shelfer:And then I didn't really think that the life that I had created was attainable and I had done it. And I stopped dreaming, yeah, and when I stopped dreaming so I wasn't completely fulfilled, but in that very micro moment, then I felt I had done it, I had achieved everything. There's nothing else that I quote, unquote want in life.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, and from that moment when I, when I I remember distinctly having the thought I was standing in the backyard looking at the lake, looking at the dock and the boat, and knowing that you were here, like in the house, and I was like I've arrived.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:And I, I quit, dreaming forward like I quit, I let, I, I stopped imagining what else could be. And there was a point of it was that I was just tired, like I'd done. I felt like we had done all these things, all these things, and I was like, can I keep going at this pace? And it's not about that. It's about identifying what you want and just moving intentionally toward it.
Jana Shelfer:Yes.
Jason Shelfer:And what I didn't know at the time.
Jana Shelfer:But I feel like what you're saying and if you start digging layers down, you were looking for maybe purpose.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, well, also, and I didn't have the imagination to dream bigger. Purpose is a big thing. It's like I did all this. I did all these things and that was the purpose I'd given myself was create this life that I want to live, but I didn't allow it to get bigger because my imagination was that's going to be a lifelong dream, that's going to be my lifelong dream, and I didn't it to get bigger because my imagination was that's going to be a lifelong dream, like that's going to be my lifelong dream, and I didn't. I just stopped growing. That's what happened. So I wasn't motivated. I didn't have any more motivation or desperation to change until I realized that I wasn't growing and I was getting like lethargic and angry and sad, and sometimes our souls.
Jana Shelfer:I hate to say this, but sometimes our souls need to go into that place because, you mentioned it earlier, the two reasons why people change are either desperation or inspiration.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and I got to a desperate point and we both I let go of the inspiration. Yeah, and I got to a desperate point and we both I let go of the inspiration. We did, which forced me into the desperation, because our souls want to continue to grow. They want to like. Our souls are like this beautiful rose that says I just want to be out in the light. I want to, I want to grow, I want to experience, I want to feel the breeze coming across me and I want to grow, I want to experience, I want to feel the breeze coming across me and I I was like my rose is bloomed.
Jana Shelfer:And I feel like we both, our first, our first acclimation was to seek inspiration. However, I feel like either our limiting beliefs or maybe societal limiting beliefs kind of kept us like the environments we were in kind of kept us small. It was almost like we had outgrown our pot yes, right, and our souls were saying, okay, something needs to change here. And whether it was our limiting beliefs. So, oh, I don't like change, or or or what else is there? Or even people saying, well, can't you just be grateful for what you have?
Jason Shelfer:Right, oh, that's a big one. That's a big one. Can't you just be grateful for what you have? And then you feel like, wow, I have it all. I do have it all.
Jana Shelfer:So then you start feeling guilty for wanting more, and the problem with that is, once you start attaching a guilt feeling, then you start creating more things to feel guilty about what you appreciate, appreciates and when you attach that feeling, there's an appreciation of that feeling or you just would ignore it. Okay, so back to the original premise.
Jason Shelfer:Inspiration or desperation.
Jana Shelfer:Inspiration or desperation. Those are the two reasons why we change. Now we got an email today of someone who is seeking inspiration and I would say which comes first? Is it the smile or the laughter? Which comes first? The inspiration, Like, I guess, what I'm trying to say is what's going to move you. Sometimes we need to, and I don't I don't like using the word fake it until we make it.
Jason Shelfer:Face it until you make it.
Jana Shelfer:But sometimes if we change our energy into feeling inspired, then we start. It starts clearing the path to what inspires us.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:It's like changing our state first, and I know that people are like, yeah, but Jana, I don't feel inspired. However, I have found in my life it's the feeling. The feeling directs the thoughts, and I know you have argued no, it's the thoughts that direct the feeling.
Jason Shelfer:And one of the things is I'll jump in and say that it's identifying, it's like letting your imagination run free, and it took, I think, for me and I don't want to speak for you, but I think it took someone saying what would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? Like if you had a magic wand, how else would you change the world that you live in? Like, how else, how would you create the bigger picture? Mm-hmm.
Jana Shelfer:Like how else, how would you create the bigger?
Jason Shelfer:picture and then that allowed my imagination to break free from I already have it all. It allowed me to stay appreciative and grateful for all the things that I do have, but it also allowed me to envision something bigger and better, which created this new inspiration and got me out of my desperation, because I was. I was deep in desperation and I didn't know it. I hadn't labeled it as desperation. What happened was it was a depression.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, we're kind of let's, let's narrow it in a little bit. So how do you change your energy to being inspired or motivated? Because really, if you just do that for I mean, even if you take it minute by minute and say you know what, right now I'm going to how would I feel if I was extremely inspired and then change your state? Then, for some reason, we start showing up a little differently and that in itself will start creating.
Jason Shelfer:When you show up differently, you get different things.
Jana Shelfer:The problem is we get into a habit.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, a routine of daily.
Jana Shelfer:Or a rut of being uninspired, being unmotivated, yeah.
Jason Shelfer:Are you with me? Yeah, and I think that comes from actively, like you talk about it a lot being busy. Being busy Like we get up, and we either get up and do, do, do, do, keep doing things and we're not getting it. We keep the same in our life, like everything stays the same, even though we are constantly active, and then we say, well, I would rather just not be active, I would rather just go lay down, go watch a movie, go Netflix and chill whatever. And then I noticed that I still get the same thing.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, yeah, so if we, if we want different results, we need to do something different, feel differently, so we show up differently. Okay, so we're getting a little long-winded today and I don't know if we're going to come up with the answer to life right now. However, one action step that I feel you can take to change your energy in the moment is by music. It's by music.
Jason Shelfer:It's by music. It's by dancing that works for both of us.
Jana Shelfer:It works for both of us Music dancing, just showing up a little different in the micro moment.
Jason Shelfer:Because music adjusts your feelings. This goes back to when you have a breakup you go listen to a bunch of sad love songs. Yes, you know Like you enhance your feeling and your emotional state by the music you listen to At least that's what it was for me when I was in high school. Like the breakup my life is over.
Jana Shelfer:Nothing compares to you, I know, oh no, for me it's, I'm a creep.
Jana Shelfer:I'm such an idiot.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, so finding what are those motivational triggers? Think about the song from Rocky Everybody's on the edge of their seat when Eye of the Tiger comes on. Oh no, and they're just like oh yeah, and then they're like I want to go to the gym, I want to sign up for a membership right now.
Jana Shelfer:I was just going to say, if you listen to people's ear pods while they're working out a? I was just going to say if you listen to people's ear pods while they're working out, a lot of times they go back to that. Rocky song yeah, because of the way it makes you feel.
Jason Shelfer:It makes you feel inspired. The way it makes you feel.
Jana Shelfer:So, if you want to be inspired, feel inspired. Yes, if you want to be motivated, feel motivated. And just pick a direction and just consciously choose to change your state, even if, even if you think, oh my gosh, I'm just faking it until I make it, because one will start leading the other.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and you'll realize that you are creating your reality.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, we're going to end right there. This podcast will be continued Keep Living Lucky®.
