Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jemma, I'm Jason and we are Living Lucky®. You are too. We have a guilty pleasure.
Jana Shelfer:It's called Survivor. And we've been doing it for 46 seasons. That's for 47 seasons.
Jason Shelfer:Oh my gosh. This is the 47th season.
Jana Shelfer:Every Wednesday night, jason and I. We don't have cable, so sometimes we have to wait until Thursday in order to download it. However, we are vigilant about our Survivor time.
Jason Shelfer:It's an interesting showcase of human design and social design, social dynamics is what it is. And then also with the idea of winning, and winning at the cost of others.
Jana Shelfer:So there's one character His name is Andy, and if you have been watching, you know that Andy got off to one of the worst starts in Survivor history. It was crazy Because he was overcome with doubt, fear and uncertainty in the form of he started suffering from paranoia, like everyone was out to get him. They're out to get me. No one likes me To get him. Nobody liked him, and he said that this all goes back to his childhood of always feeling like he was the outcast.
Jason Shelfer:He brought the cloak of past, like all his baggage, to the island with him. You couldn't see it, but it was evident in the things that he did and said and the way he acted. Yes, I mean we could see it.
Jana Shelfer:We could see it. I mean, it felt so obvious to us right.
Jason Shelfer:And it's, I think, a lot of times it's all about your thoughts, your beliefs, your actions. People do this on a regular basis to different levels, almost like kind of on the spectrum of the doubt, the uncertainty, like that paranoia of life isn't working for me instead of life is working for me. But he pulled, he stuck around and he adjusted.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, so after one of the first Episodes no, not episodes One of the first challenges that they did, he actually like fell to the ground and started having an anxiety attack. He actually fell to the ground and started having an anxiety attack and he literally started throwing people under the bus how they're talking about him. They don't like him. Week one it was literally a tantrum that you would have when you were a little kid In Walmart and you didn't get what you wanted.
Jana Shelfer:And so, literally when we were watching this, we were like, oh, it's over for Andy, he is a goner, he is going to be the first out you know as an adult, we often have these moments, but we don't let that out, you go into your safe room in your house and you have it. Yes, but he did it not only publicly in front of the tribe, he did it on national TV.
Jason Shelfer:Yes.
Jana Shelfer:And the more that I think about this, the that's brilliant, because we often say act like you're a kid, and kids many times have these emotions and feelings that they don't know how to handle, and so they do have these little these little like let's get it out. And then, once it's out, they're like okay, let's be best friends, right, am I right, or am I right?
Jana Shelfer:Yeah.
Jason Shelfer:And you have there has to be, and because, I think, because they were trapped on the island, so they're stuck together. It's not like you can just say I'm not dealing with that person. They could have voted him out, but what it did was it put him in a position of let's just keep Andy.
Jana Shelfer:He's not a threat he is not a threat.
Jason Shelfer:We can get him out anytime.
Jana Shelfer:And he's a time bomb waiting to happen. He's going to self-destruct and that takes the target off of me. Yes, that's what everyone was thinking. You know what? He would be easy to keep around, because if the target is ever on me, then we can say no, it's time for Andy to go home. We all feel this.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, you got to get rid of Andy Well, and part of that is, I think I know that the so the producers asked these characters or these participants questions during the shooting just to get their intake, their perspective and things like that moment, and kind of start adjusting to how he really wanted to play the game and how use his talents and let go of some of the baggage that he brought in and he really started to thrive in the game.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, to the point where he started, because everyone underestimated him. Yes, that was really the superpower that he held. Is he realized? Everyone underestimates me, everyone thinks that I am maybe emotionally unstable and therefore I'm going to start pulling some strings here using this?
Jason Shelfer:to my advantage, and that's what he did. He did he turned into a little puppet master.
Jana Shelfer:And so Jeff Probst actually says last night that, andy, when everyone thought it was over for Andy.
Jason Shelfer:He had the worst start in the game, but instead of giving in, he dug in.
Jana Shelfer:Instead of giving in, he dug in, he leaned into it. We often say lean into it. Lean into it Whenever you're up against a challenge, instead of turning your back or trying to avoid it lean into it.
Jason Shelfer:He kept his eye on the prize, went back to why he was there, what his ultimate goal was, let go of some of the things that weren't serving him and started really maximizing on the things that did serve him.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, I mean and made it to the top five things that did serve him. Yeah, I mean made it to the top five. It has been almost a lesson in how to persevere how to be resilient.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, there's a metaphor about adjusting your sails on a sailboat. Like the wind's going to happen or it's not, but you adjust your sails to get you to where you want to go, and that's what Andy really. Andy was a master at adjusting his sails and getting to where Now he wanted to win the game he did. Don't give anything away, it's not over yet. So he has adjusted his sails and he has made it A lot further than he or anyone On the season anticipated.
Jana Shelfer:Okay last night he got voted out. I kind of gave it away already a lot further than he or anyone on the season anticipated.
Jason Shelfer:Okay, last night he got voted out.
Jana Shelfer:I kind of gave it away already. If you're listening to this, he got voted out.
Jason Shelfer:Spoiler alert.
Jana Shelfer:But that's because he well, he made a couple of mistakes.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:Assuming that things were going to fall, yeah.
Jason Shelfer:He got a little cocky, he started doing jury management yeah.
Jana Shelfer:As soon as they get cocky on that game, they're gone.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah.
Jana Shelfer:Like, that is the number one as soon as you start getting cocky whoa watch out, you're next.
Jason Shelfer:It was so funny watching from a place of like kind of seeing the setup when he was doing jury management. It's like, okay, you can go do jury management, but you're going to be doing it from the jury.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, At any rate, his whole journey on this show, the last eight episodes that we've watched. He really has turned it around in real time. It's been fun to watch.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and if you listen to his talk track now, he has gained so much confidence.
Jana Shelfer:To the point where he got cocky.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and he's going to take that back to the way he lives his life is to not allow the fear to hold him back and to really just dig in instead of giving in.
Jana Shelfer:Let's just say that, saying one more time because it is so profound, Instead of giving in dig in Instead of giving in dig in. You know when Jason and I, over the pandemic, we were on clubhouse day after day and I remember people saying lean into the suck, lean into the suck, do you remember?
Jana Shelfer:that.
Jana Shelfer:And at the time I'm like I don't really know what they mean by that.
Jason Shelfer:But I think when you have those yucky sucky feelings, when it feels like the mountain is pushing against, you dig into the mountain.
Jana Shelfer:Dig in, dig in. Now's the time to show your character.
Jason Shelfer:That's right.
Jana Shelfer:Show your potential. Find out what's possible.
Jason Shelfer:Get to the top, keep Living Lucky®.
