Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning, I'm Jana Shelfer,
Jason Shelfer:I'm Jason
Jana Shelfer:and we are Living Lucky®.
Jason Shelfer:You are too.
Jana Shelfer:Sometimes we just need to fall in love with ourselves again, right? Yes, I feel like sometimes we get into midlife and I don't know about you but I'm like I can't stand being in my head.
Jason Shelfer:I think there's also sometimes a lack of awareness of the fact that we're not fully loving ourselves, like it's just kind of like we're you. We talk often about we're busy, being busy and we do get busy being busy and we take awareness off of the things that create that love for ourselves and create a pathway to staying in love with ourselves.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah. So I have this, this little meme here. It's five ways to fall in love with you. Five ways to fall in love with you. Five ways to fall in love with you, and I'm gonna go in reverse order, because I think number one it's embrace your imperfections yeah, so like we, we embrace them instead of criticizing, because my little voice in my head is like oh, you could do this better and you should be this and you should lose 10 pounds.
Jason Shelfer:I always go back to it and if we just take a moment, like take a moment in that conversation that's disempowering or unloving and say, how can I love myself with this?
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, Like how can I love this extra 10 pounds on my my para belly? I've got like a kangaroo pouch and I love it I love it.
Jason Shelfer:That's funny.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, and I've got roots growing in my hair that I'm like oh my gosh, gray hairs are starting to come out of my head and I love it.
Jason Shelfer:So and I think this falls perfectly in to doing this podcast here in November- because, it is National Gratitude Month or maybe World. Gratitude Month and for the US here it's a time of thanksgiving, so giving thanks for these things and awareness around. How can I embrace these imperfections and love myself through them?
Jana Shelfer:Yeah. So instead of focusing on the, the pair of pouch that I talk about, I should say you know what my body works and I love that, I love that. And my hair, instead of saying, oh my God, a couple of gray hairs coming through, I have hair.
Jason Shelfer:What we appreciate. I love my hair. I appreciate.
Jana Shelfer:I love having hair. I love it.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, right, yes, I would love more hair, but I love my hair the way it is.
Jana Shelfer:Okay. So number one is embrace your imperfections. Number two improve your self-talk. So those go hand in hand.
Jason Shelfer:Yes, and recognizing okay, what are the things? I think I've already mentioned this, but recognizing those things that you're saying, because my head goes off all the time, Um, and sometimes it's about me. Sometimes it is chatter. It's chatter and it's distraction. And if we just grab a hold of it and start crafting it to what makes me feel better, what makes me look better, what makes me love myself more, yeah, then we get to, I think, embrace and experience life so much more fully.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, I actually think that sometimes we become our own worst enemy.
Jason Shelfer:It's get out of your own way Get out of your own way.
Jana Shelfer:Like Jana, move over, I'm meant to be awesome.
Jason Shelfer:Like. Are these words blocking you? Are you laying out the story that creates the obstacle? Or are you laying out the story that creates love and connection and a pathway to, or are you laying out the story that creates love and connection and a pathway to being with people and being with yourself Along?
Jana Shelfer:those same lines, though sometimes we talk about improving our self-talk. We've been talking about this now for years.
Jason Shelfer:Ten years yeah.
Jana Shelfer:And sometimes I think that there's analysis, paralysis in that that the more you become aware that's part of the evolution is, you need to become aware of it and then you start focusing on it, which actually almost creates more of it.
Jason Shelfer:There's a point in there where it becomes you're creating your own self-talk, where all of the language and dialogue that you subscribe to is empowering and is loving and I think this comes back to how to love yourself more. When you love yourself fully and completely, your dialogue and your inner dialogue will be congruent with that.
Jana Shelfer:Oh, I love it. Okay, number three, get to know yourself again, hello.
Jason Shelfer:Shower time Too much information.
Jana Shelfer:Yeah, they always say why are teenage boys taking 30 minute showers?
Jason Shelfer:They're just getting to know themselves.
Jana Shelfer:They're getting to know themselves. Okay, we don't mean always in that sense, although that's fine too. But I know for me.
Jason Shelfer:I have started doing art Like Find those things, that Piano, that blow fire into the ember within your soul.
Jana Shelfer:Find the things that time just escapes. Oh so good, I've started skiing. You know, like things dancing, these are all I mean. I'm twirling the baton at age 49 things. These are things that I love to do, and when I do them, I lose track of time yeah, and you feel free, full and fearless yeah, they're things that I love to do when I was little, and then, for some reason, we have responsibilities and we stop doing that.
Jason Shelfer:So those responsibilities are things that you subscribe to, yeah, and there's a lot of responsibilities that we put on ourselves that we don't necessarily need.
Jason Shelfer:But the responsibility we need to embrace is loving ourselves more and finding, get to knowing ourselves again knowing what, what actually lights us up and we talked about this off off air, about just being authentic. A lot of times we have a facade up and when we so we're get to know our facade so well and we, that blocks us from getting to know ourselves fully and it also creates a connection between the facade and our community instead of a connection between ourselves and the community. Our subconscious knows this. So when we allow ourselves to get to know ourselves, then we get to know that that connection that we're making is an authentic and true and real connection which leads back into a more loving experience. Yeah, without the shadows.
Jana Shelfer:Okay, number four celebrate small wins. Now, if you have followed Jana and Jason's podcast, you know that we talk about this a lot and we celebrate ourselves a lot. Yeah, you know that we talk about this a lot and we celebrate ourselves a lot. Yeah, I mean, we have to in order to balance out that chatter that's in our head, right?
Jason Shelfer:And the fact that we put ourselves in the arena every day is a win. So it's whether we get the results that we want or not. Results are feedback that tell us okay, where can we improve. So celebrate all the wins, like all the small wins, and you can tell a story that's a true story that will turn any experience into a win.
Jana Shelfer:Yes, yes, yes, I'm yes-ing you all the way it's.
Jason Shelfer:Dr John Demartini's gratitude effect kind of in a weird sense, because there's a way to be grateful in everything. There's a way to have a win in every situation.
Jana Shelfer:I love it. I love it. Number five prioritize self-care.
Jason Shelfer:That's when I leave out so much.
Jana Shelfer:This is our nemesis. I think you and I sometimes put our self-care on the back burner. At least second, and unless when we put it way back in the line and I feel like we have these wake-up calls every now and then and we're like, oh, we got to do it. And then it's almost like we go to extremes. We're like I'm putting my self-care first.
Jason Shelfer:If we just embrace because there are times that we really embrace, putting that into part of our routine, where it's a part of every day, and then, just like you said, I think we all have a habit of getting busy, being busy, and it's it's saying okay, let's prioritize these things, let's prioritize the self-care, because we all know that when we show up, um well, care for we show up differently in the world and are able to do the things that we're already trying to do and being busy being busy doing in a more impactful and meaningful way.
Jana Shelfer:And last but not least, thank yourself.
Jason Shelfer:Back to gratitude. When was the?
Jana Shelfer:last time you thanked yourself, though? When was the last time you said thank you Jason, Thank you Jim, it's funny.
Jason Shelfer:When you asked me to do the gratitude journal several years ago and it was a whole year of gratitude, five things every day. I went back through it and there were zero thanks, gratefulness for me or things about me, things that I do. There was nothing in the whole journal. So whatever 365 days times five is I had gone through. I went so deep as to being grateful for the guy that takes the rocks off the mountain in Peru to plant the coffee seeds.
Jana Shelfer:I remember that.
Jason Shelfer:And I never once was grateful for something about myself.
Jana Shelfer:And that leads to so along those coffee lines. How can we bring that back to Jason? Are you grateful that you take the time to drink coffee every morning.
Jason Shelfer:I'm grateful for so much about me and so much of me, but I need to also take a moment to express that and write it down and to show myself that. And to show the universe Instead of always being this observer, I need to also be the being of it, and that was a change for me when we talked about it several months ago.
Jana Shelfer:One of us always gets goosies.
Jason Shelfer:Right Always, and that's a big change for me and not having it top of mind. I often ignore it and that's so the self-care and the self being thankful for yourself or thanking yourself is a way of kind of building that or filling that inner cup.
Jana Shelfer:OK, so I'm going to give everyone an action step. I'm really talking to myself. I just burped. Did you just burp on air? I'm going to give everyone an action step. I'm really talking to myself. I just burped.
Jason Shelfer:Did you just burp on air?
Jana Shelfer:I'm sorry.
Jason Shelfer:I remember starting the podcast You're like never burp on air.
Jana Shelfer:I think that we should all look in the mirror today and say thank you for. Thank you for, and then whatever comes out is between you and yourself.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and that's a very simple thing. Like I think you should list five things. Thank you for X, and that's a step in the right direction.
Jana Shelfer:What comes to mind right away.
Jason Shelfer:I think thank you for putting yourself out there every day. Yeah, thank you for having awareness around the things you want to improve on and then taking the next best step towards it, instead of just analyzing it over and over and over and over again and also putting it on the back burner over and over and over again, because I've been in those positions.
Jana Shelfer:I think mine are going to be really, really. I know this sounds very basic and small, but I think mine would literally be thank you for getting out of bed today. Thank you, janna, for just getting up, because I know that there is this little voice inside me that's like oh, it would be really nice to.
Jason Shelfer:I didn't sleep well last night it might just be nice to yeah, so I thank you for getting up and I don't think there's anything too small or too big to thank yourself for. You just burped, I hiccuped, which is a reverse burp, I guess we're gross and we love it we're embracing our imperfections thank you for that extra little swallow of air that I got through that hiccup there you go, go.
Jana Shelfer:Oh my gosh, that's so great. Fall in love with yourself again. You know, I think when we do that, we actually show up a little and play a little more out loud.
Jason Shelfer:Yeah, and I think when we when you are fully in love with yourself, you allow people to love you fully.
Jana Shelfer:And you, you also become a little more transparent and a little more accepting a little less critical less judgmental.
Jason Shelfer:It just there's a lot there yeah, and it's a more full feeling of life and love and it's also a deeper relationship with your whole Living Lucky® experience thank you for joining us and whole Living Lucky® experience. Thank you for joining us and keep Living Lucky®, love yourself.
