Dream Sharing and Inspiration for Growth

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana and this is my husband, Jason Shelfer, and we are Living Lucky® you are too.

Jana Shelfer

We talked about dreams in our last podcast. We want to follow up on that because it is our favorite topic. Yeah, and dreams are important. Dreams will inspire other dreams. You know, Jason Shelfer, you came home that one day from your dream builders group and you said the thing about sharing your dream with people is that you come away with more dreams.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, when you share your dream with someone else, you get this fire for collaboration and how you make the world a better place and you also get ideas of oh you know, maybe I'm not dreaming big enough, or that sounds like a fun dream.

Jana Shelfer

I want to add that in my dream list or maybe incorporate that into what I'm doing.

Jason Shelfer

Well, what you find is when people are making the world a better place, a lot of times it's almost like a ladder, like when we grow together. A lot of times we're growing in different ways and also in very similar ways, definitely. So when we're growing in different ways, that's fine. We get to learn different skills. When we're growing in similar ways, we can grow together. So there's places where our paths cross and that's where we can help each other. So it's where all of our paths are going to pass. Our paths cross Wow, I'm getting a little tongue tied but our paths cross and we can actually help each other where our paths cross, right. So if we share our dreams out loud, we'll see where those intersections are and we get help along the way.

Jana Shelfer

I love it.

Jason Shelfer

And it's beautiful, but we do have to be able to articulate our dream.

Jana Shelfer

Honestly, yes, let's stop right there, Because I feel that one of the hardest things at least for me and people don't talk about this was saying my dream out loud. In fact, I'm going to just be really vulnerable right now. We spoke at Mindvalley and I had the microphone twice, so I not only spoke on stage, but then we went to another event where I actually grabbed the mic and I started speaking impromptu.

Jason Shelfer

Future self.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, I said to everyone publicly that I am regenerating my spinal cord Thousands of people. A frog just came out of my throat when I said that I am regenerating my spinal cord and I am learning to walk again Now. Yes, that has been a dream of mine for 34 years. I never thought I would say that out loud, because sometimes saying it out loud is scary to articulate it out loud Like it's a.

Jason Shelfer

It's a weird thing, because I remember when I was a child and I was around my friends and I started talking about some of the things that I wanted to do and they were like they would just laugh. Like who are you to think you could do that? Who are you to think that you can go help these people?

Jana Shelfer

Or you can.

Overcoming Fears and Sharing Dreams

Jason Shelfer

You're a quote unquote important enough or you could have an impact. You know what we all are important. We all impact. We impact each other every day. Whether you're just walking down the street and smiling at someone, energy is contagious and every one of us impacts the people around us on a daily basis us on a daily basis.

Jana Shelfer

Okay, so I think there is fear in saying it out loud and the most obvious fear is fear of rejection or fear of failure. I mean once. I say this out loud and then-.

Jason Shelfer

What if it never happens?

Jana Shelfer

I got to put my mouth where my mouth is what?

Jason Shelfer

is it your money where your mouth is?

Jana Shelfer

Yes, my money where my mouth?

Jason Shelfer

is no-transcript. Put your mouth in your pocket.

Jana Shelfer

Put your money where your mouth and your mouth where your money.

Jason Shelfer

That's right.

Jana Shelfer

I feel like that could be a rap song.

Jason Shelfer

Snoop Doggy Dog.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, just call me that from now on. No, I'm kidding, but I feel like so. The first obvious fear is rejection, and then I think, it's fear of failure. I also, though, think there's fear of change and fear of success, because sometimes, when we say it out loud, now it's real, and now we are accountable, and we don't always want to let go of where we are.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and we also. So for me sometimes also it's like do I want my soul to know that my mind and my heart know what it really wants.

Jana Shelfer

Sometimes it's easier to just act ignorant and be busy, being busy Right.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, Sometimes it's like okay, you know, Soul, look at my hands. I'm just I'm so busy sorting mail right now I can't get to the things that are really matter.

Jana Shelfer

No, I did that for two years in my job because I just kept. It's like I didn't want to hear my soul. My soul was saying Jana Shelfer, there's something bigger, go find it. And I didn't want to, but it's good enough.

Jason Shelfer

Because I was comfortable want to hear it because I was comfortable. It's good enough here.

Jana Shelfer

I was comfortable. I'm getting a paycheck Right. I liked what I did. Yeah, I didn't want to let go.

Jason Shelfer

But gosh darn it. People like me here.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

Oh my gosh. And then I want to say that, as we really went on the bandwagon of taking our camper around the US and asking people to put their dreams on it, the next level of this saying out loud is I realized that I would sneak out of the camper and write down more goals and put them on. So my first goal was very general, it was believe. And then, as I started getting courage from other people of what their dream is, which is why it's so important to share your dream, because as I started hearing other people's dreams and I started actually asking them well, what's stopping you?

Jason Shelfer

And you also had the evidence of their dreams coming true, as they moved intentionally towards them.

Jana Shelfer

Yes, I started building that belief muscle and, as they were putting their dreams on our camper, it inspired me to start really saying what I wanted. And I put three additional dreams on our camper that I never thought would come true. One was connecting with parts of the family that I haven't talked to in 30 years, and that came true.

Jason Shelfer

And we're actually really close now.

Jana Shelfer

I know which is so bizarre. And then you know, hosting a TV show. I thought that was a dream that I would probably go to my grave with.

Jason Shelfer

It was a wild thought.

Jana Shelfer

It was, wouldn't that be nice. I'm the next Oprah.

Jason Shelfer

And then speaking on a Mindvalley stage. For me, right, crazy. It was one of those things like I'm going to put this on here just in case, just in case it's a magic camper.

Jana Shelfer

No, actually we started putting them on because we were, like our camper's, kind of sparse. Right now it looks like it's got the chicken pox. Let's like help it out a little bit.

Jason Shelfer

Now. It's got thousands of dreams on it. If you want to see a picture of it, you just got to go to livingluckycom and look at the pictures on the website.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah. And then you know, I started putting I really don't want to stay at this campsite, I would rather be staying at a four-star hotel.

Jason Shelfer

That's right.

Jana Shelfer

Four seasons that was one of the dreams I put on the sticker.

Jason Shelfer

Motel 6.

Jana Shelfer

And then, lastly, I put that I wanted to walk again and I never in a million years did I think that that would come true. I think I also put I want to write a book.

Jason Shelfer

Well, now I know what's a book and I wanted to learn Spanish.

Jana Shelfer

So I mean I still have a few more dreams to like. Start really chugging away on.

Jason Shelfer

You've got to dream bigger.

Jana Shelfer

Oh my gosh.

Jason Shelfer

You've got to dream in Spanish. What I'm trying to say is I feel¿ Cómo se dice ¿Cómo se dice dream in Spanish?

Jana Shelfer

I don't know why that tickled me so much.

Jason Shelfer

I don't even know what I said.

Jana Shelfer

I know, I think you said how do you?

Jason Shelfer

say in Spanish how do you say dream in Spanish?

Jana Shelfer

Oh, we're kind of giddy tonight but I or this morning, but I or this morning, at any rate. I just wanted to say it was hard for me to to just get them out To vocalize it. To vocalize it.

Jason Shelfer

Well, and we have to start thinking about it, and that's, that's one of the things when we ask the question what's my dream? What excites me? What is that? What do I want? What do I? What is the experience of life that I really want? And if I could, just if I closed my eyes and I had a magic bottle, magic genie bottle or whatever a magic lamp, how would the world look for me? Like, what would that wish be? Yes, and so here in America we have a lottery, like, we have this billion dollar lottery. It gets up into the billions sometimes. Yes, so if we imagine that we bought a ticket and it was the winning ticket, sometimes we can imagine what it would be like to have a dream, because we imagine if this ticket was my winning ticket what would I?

Jason Shelfer

do for the next 10 years.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, that is so true.

Jason Shelfer

And so let go of all the monetary constraints, let go of all the I don't know hows, I don't know who's, and just imagine what would my dream be if I had all the resources in the world.

Jana Shelfer

Or if I knew I couldn't fail.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

What would my dream be if I knew I was guaranteed success?

Jason Shelfer

yeah, and then just let your imagination go run wild and then start sharing that dream with some friends that support you, that that root for you and are just playing this game with you, and then get creative so you can actually verbalize it, and then you get to kind of inspire each other with your dreams.

Jana Shelfer

And that's a beautiful little. Whenever you say, inspire each other, it sounds like you're saying chother.

Jason Shelfer

I'm like, is he?

Jana Shelfer

speaking Spanish again.

Jason Shelfer

I am Each other. It's Estonian, we got back from Estonia and I still speak a little bit of Estonian. So inspire each other.

Jana Shelfer

Actually, it took you the entire 10 days just to learn how to say hi.

Jason Shelfer

No, it's. Thank you, aita.

Jana Shelfer

Oh, okay, my bad.

Jason Shelfer

Aita, thank you and be confident in it.

Jana Shelfer

Say your dreams out loud. Say them out loud. Sometimes that is the first step. Say them out loud, write them down and get an accountability partner.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and living lucky®.
