Living Lucky® Podcast with Jason and Jana Banana
Creating Balance: Balance isn’t something we find, it's something we create
What if the balance you're seeking is not about a perfectly poised lifestyle, but more about harmonizing with life's ebbs and flows? This is what we, Jana and Jason, unpack in our thought-provoking discussion that dares to redefine our conventional understanding of balance. We dive into how shifting the blame onto others for our life's chaos isn't productive, and how crucial it is to cultivate awareness and clarity about the problems we've created in our own lives. We also stress the need to shift our focus from the problem to the solution, ultimately paving a pathway for progress.
Now, imagine intentionally throwing your life off balance to spur growth. Controversial? Maybe. But we believe it's an essential part of pushing beyond your comfort zone. We end our conversation introducing a new concept - 'life harmony'. It's about embracing life's rhythms, creating your own beat and dancing with it. In this episode, we won't just be talking about balance, we will be challenging you to redefine it, to shift your mindset and to take ownership of your life. It's time to stop blaming, start acting, and create the harmonious life you deserve. Tune in for an episode full of insights and aha moments as you move towards Living Lucky.

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start living lucky.
Speaker 2:Good morning. I'm Jana, I'm Jason.
Speaker 1:And we are living lucky. We're talking about balance today.
Speaker 2:Oh, new balance.
Speaker 1:No, not the tennis shoes. I'm not sure that I should be the person talking about balance, because it feels like I go from one end of the teeter-totter right to the other.
Speaker 2:I feel like balance is that place of peace that we find ourselves in sometimes, really, when we get right to the center of the now.
Speaker 1:I'm not sure I've ever found it. You're laughing? No, because I can only, but there's so much truth to that.
Speaker 2:I feel like we all go through that and it's a. I think balance is something that you have to create. We keep looking for balance, but I think balance is literally something we have to create and I think we do a really good job at doing that when we are really intentional about our routines.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I've heard the saying that we often blame people for the dysfunction that we have in our lives. Is that right?
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:For the non-balance Is it?
Speaker 2:non-balance In balance, non-balance. But yes, I'm going to say yes, and to that.
Speaker 1:It's kind of like my email inbox. I'm always like why am I subscribed to all of these junk emails or all of these newsletters? Or it feels like I get all of these emails that come into my inbox and whenever, like every morning, I'm always like oh my gosh, it's going to take me an hour just to delete all of these things.
Speaker 2:It takes an hour just to get to the things that you need to get to.
Speaker 1:And then I think well, I created this, so why am I blaming them for sending me an email? Because I created this. I somehow signed up for this, but in order to Even on a bigger note.
Speaker 2:I mean, we talk about how we have to. We feel like we're working ourselves to death and we're just trying to keep up. Yeah Well, it's? What cars are you driving? What mortgage do you have? All these things. We build our own prisons and then we get angry at the world for us being in the prisons.
Speaker 1:That is so true. In fact, I once saw this cartoon and it literally was this guy holding up these prison bars that he was looking out, and then he would like he was walking around holding these prison bars.
Speaker 2:But he's just holding them. He's holding his own bars, yeah, he wasn't even in a room.
Speaker 1:He was just walking around holding prison bars, looking through them and I thought, oh my gosh, that's so true.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Because we do that.
Speaker 2:I remember when I was so stressed out and so overwhelmed by work that I was just angry, and then it hit me that I've created a lot of the things that I'm angry about Now. How do I start creating the balance that I'm looking for?
Speaker 1:Okay, yeah. So let's talk about that, because that's really what this whole podcast is about. It's about making the turn. It's turning the downward spirals into the upward spirals and manifesting the life that we want to create.
Speaker 2:Oh, that sounds exciting.
Speaker 1:And not focusing on the imbalance. How do we start creating the balance? So let's talk about this First and foremost, in almost every scenario is awareness.
Speaker 2:Yes, awareness is crucial and taking responsibility.
Speaker 1:Taking responsibility and saying you know what? I created all these emails in my inbox.
Speaker 2:Getting away from the blame and getting into ownership.
Speaker 1:I mean, I literally I spend probably 20 minutes every day saying unsubscribe, unsubscribe, unsubscribe. Not sure how I ended up on your email list, but unsubscribe, and then I'm just going to be real. I sometimes feel like it's a little bit of a scam because they're like if you want to unsubscribe, put your email address here, because we're going to sell it to everybody else. Right, I'm kidding, that's what they do. Surely not. It's got to be against the law, ok, so step number one is awareness.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and step number two is getting clear on, a what the problem is and B what you want out of life. So you're clear about I'm not so sure about what the problem is.
Speaker 1:I think that's where we make a mistake is we get clear about what the problem is and then we get stuck on what the problem is.
Speaker 2:And we start focusing too deeply on the problem.
Speaker 1:We create more problem.
Speaker 2:So what I meant by that is you get clear on, I've created my issues.
Speaker 1:Taking responsibility.
Speaker 2:If I'm frustrated about the amount of money that I have to make to keep generating the lifestyle that I'm living. What in my lifestyle did I finance? What in my lifestyle am I looking to get, and how do I move towards what I'm really seeking?
Speaker 1:So let's start looking at the solution. Yes, let's start focusing on the solution.
Speaker 2:Well, that's the forward path, right, function forward. Oh, write that down, function forward. And then it's taking action. So, once you're clear, you have to take action. So many times people get clear and then they say that's going to take work. I'm not going to do that, I'm going to go back to my comfort zone which is not comfortable, but it's good enough, it's what they're used to, I think.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I don't know. I feel like sometimes taking action is the step that everybody thinks that you're supposed to take, but I actually disagree with that. I think taking action is something that comes after you change your mindset and after you change your emotional state of being. I really think that, when it comes down to action, it just comes naturally once you start changing the way you think about things and you start changing your energy.
Speaker 2:Yeah, kind of changing who you are. So I completely agree with that, 100%, because action will create a short-term change. Changing your mindset, changing your emotional state of being, is going to create the long-term change, because it's creating who you are and who you want to be, and when you create that person, that person decides to do things differently.
Speaker 1:Here's the thing, though, is I really think that sometimes throwing your life out of balance is not a bad thing, and that's the other place where I sometimes get stuck is because everyone preaches oh, we have to have life balance, we have to have life balance, and I sometimes take an opposite approach, where I think you know what, I'm going to throw my life completely out of balance because that is uncomfortable.
Speaker 2:A specific amount of time.
Speaker 1:But that's where I get lost is for a specific amount of time I sometimes get.
Speaker 2:Sometimes you overwhelm it or take it too far.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So what I hear? Because you're very creative and you're very musical. So balance to me. When I think of you, I think of harmony Balance sounds boring. I think of life harmony instead of life balance. Okay, Because in a song you have where it builds to a crescendo and then you have where it's like you have these different feelings in a song.
Speaker 1:You know what, jason? I think you just gave me an aha moment, because when you say life harmony, for me that sounds so much more appealing. When people say life balance, I'm like gag me with a spoon. I know that's such an 80s saying, but I'm like that just sounds like yawn, put me to bed. That sounds so boring. It just sounds like take me to science class.
Speaker 2:And life harmony allows you to be the orchestra of your life. But life harmony, that's maestro.
Speaker 1:Yeah, sounds like the ups and downs and ins and outs and crescendos and decrescendos and changing the rhythm and you dance with it. Yes, and then you can dance with it and you can have fun with it and it sounds more like go with the flow.
Speaker 2:Well, and you get to adjust your moves accordingly. You get to create your beat and your rhythm. Yes, and creating rhythm is going to be a huge part of that.
Speaker 1:I don't know about anyone else here, but if you are a right-brained artsy person, like I am, I think, jason, you just gave me such clarity. In fact, I feel like maybe I should rewind and listen to this over and over and over today, because I'm telling you so many times people have said Jana, you need life balance, you need to balance your life, you need a little more fun, and I'm like fun. I don't understand. I mean, I need to. You know, I have a goal. I'm goal oriented. Right now, I want to reach this goal.
Speaker 2:You're very achiever, yes, and you're high achiever and I'm like you know.
Speaker 1:What's fun for me is when I reach the top of that mountain, when I win when. I win. That's going to be a lot of fun.
Speaker 2:When I get another gold medal.
Speaker 1:And so I am like I can't just stop what I'm doing and go have a tickle fight. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2:I'm down for the tickle fight. So in life harmony you can definitely pause the music, reflect and enjoy and then start creating new music after that.
Speaker 1:Or or you know, like you said, decrescendo a little bit, go out and put your feet in the grass.
Speaker 2:Let it build.
Speaker 1:And let it build. And then you're, you're creating the, the eagerness and the anticipation, the excitement. And yeah, that's, that's art, that's what that is, and life as a stage and the the, you're building the energy, that's what you're doing.
Speaker 2:Well, this is what we do with our clients all the time. I know, but you just put a whole different reframe in the moment and how we need to have it. This is the right questions to the right. Find the right answers.
Speaker 1:I needed this today. I so needed this, and I just want to say thank you Well, thank you.
Speaker 2:I hope somebody else needed it.
Speaker 1:Okay, because another, another analogy that you were bringing up earlier, when we were deciding what is it that we want to talk about in this podcast is you were saying it's kind of like when we watch survivor and they have, you know, one of those challenges where they have to go over a balance beam, and if they have to keep their balance they will run across it really fast, because the faster they go then the more balanced they have when you feel like you're losing balance.
Speaker 2:a lot of times you speed up and it's not necessarily giving you balance, it's giving you direction, but you leave a wake of imbalance in your, in your background.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So it's a and it doesn't matter on a game like that, but in life it matters.
Speaker 1:It does matter, because you're kind of leaving everyone else behind you and, in a wave of discombobulation yes, good work.
Speaker 2:And so what happens is is you leave a lot of loose ends back there that create that slingshot themselves into your future and have to be tied up.
Speaker 1:Because it eventually will catch up with you. You're just making a wave pool for yourself.
Speaker 2:Yes, and waves bounce off and come back.
Speaker 1:It's better to slow down and be the Nadia Comiche.
Speaker 2:The tranquil sea.
Speaker 1:Yes, yeah.
Speaker 2:Oh, and see as in music note, obviously, since we're on music, yeah.
Speaker 1:You got to love them. That was a dad joke.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was a dad joke, even though he's not a dad, anyway, okay, well, thank you.
Speaker 1:Thank you for giving me a little light bulb today and I hope that this all helped somebody out there. If it did, leave us a comment, I I the answers are within.
Speaker 2:The answers are always within, but today they were, they were within you, it all. If it resonates, that's hitting your tuning fork on the inside.
Speaker 1:Again, again with the dad joke, but I I got it and I appreciate it. All right, guys, have a good one. We'll talk to you later. Have a good one Bye-bye. If the idea of living lucky appeals to you, visit us at startlivingluckycom.
